Each January, the Sony Open in Hawaii attracts 145 of the world's greatest golf professionals to the island of Oahu. The signature fundraising event for Friends of Hawaii Charities, the 2016 Sony Open in Hawaii kicks off January 11-17 at Waialae Country Club.

Congratulations to our 2015 Sony Open in Hawaii champion Jimmy Walker who successfully defended his 2014 title, finishing at 23-under 257, one stroke shy of the tournament record of 256, belonging to 2013 champion Russell Henley. During Sunday's final round, Walker closed with a 7-under 63 to win by nine shots, beating the previous tournament record for largest margin of victory, seven strokes by Paul Azinger (2000) and John Huston (1998). Walker became the first repeat winner of the Sony Open in Hawaii since Ernie Els in 2004.

This year, host site Waialae Country Club celebrates fifty years of hosting the PGA TOUR. The Hawaiian Open started in 1965, and the tournament has been played every year with the exception of 1970, when a schedule change moved it from fall to winter. In 1999, it became the Sony Open in Hawaii. Last year Sony Corporation extended its commitment to sponsor the tournament through 2018 - the 20th anniversary of title sponsor entitlement of the tournament.

The world-wide media coverage of the Sony Open is amazing, reaching over 450 million homes in some 200 countries via numerous national and international broadcast networks, and contributing an estimated $100 million in marketing and economic revenues to Hawaii. In 2007 the event debuted live coverage to China, and India and with other telecasts to cover 150 other countries around the world the Sony Open is now one of the most internationally-televised golf tournaments in the world.
