The tournament used to be called the PGA Western Open, now its the third leg of the PGA FEDex cup, and its called the BMW Championship from Cog Hill Golf And CC, Lemont, Illinois, Sept.12th, 18th. Only the top 70 players will converge at Cog Hill to compete for their share of the $8,000,000 M championship purse. Only the top 30 will move on to the Tournament Championship next week in Atlanta. The players are in pursuit of the FedExCup title and the largest bonus payout in sports, $10 Million Dollars. Cog Hill Golf & Country Club is a Par 71, yardage is 7,326.

Dubsdread has always been one of favorite stops for players on the PGA Tour. It hosted the Tour's Western Open from 1991-2006 and the BMW Championship in 2007, when Tiger Woods won the championship by shattering the BMW Championship scoring record, earning his 60th PGA Tour victory.

The golf course, which was closed for the entire 2008 season to allow for a $5 million dollar renovation project, renowned golf course architect Rees Jones oversaw a renovation project to update the challenges envisioned in the original design of Dick Wilson and Joe Lee. Golfers now face 18 new greens with Sub-Air Systems, redesigned and repositioned sand bunkers, a risk-reward pond on Hole 7, additional tee options, and a 497-yd. par 4 finishing hole featuring a green moved perilously close to the nearby pond.

The BMW Championship itself will go on a rotation of courses in the Upper Midwest, including Cog Hill, Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, and Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri.

The PGA Tour's FedEx Cup Playoffs, the BMW Championship tees off this September. The tour's hottest hitters will be on hand, each gunning for this coveted late-season title.

After a one-year hiatus, due to the renovation project, 70 of the world's best golfers will return Sept 12th-18th, to contest the 2011 BMW Championship. The tournament is the third in the four-event FedExCup series.

Cog Hill Golf and Country Club is located some 30 miles southwest of downtown Chicago in the Des Plaines River Valley. There are four courses at Cog Hill but the one most golfers want to play is the world-renowned No.4 course, otherwise known as “Dubsdread”.

In 2008, Rees Jones, golf course architect was selected for the comprehensive renovation project, the first since Dubsdread's opening in 1964.

The tee complex of each hole was also completely reshaped and rebuilt. Each hole has multiple, square tee pads, strategically placed at varied yardages and angles of play to improve alignment and linksall playability.
