- Friday, November 2, 3:30-7:00 ET on ESPN2
- Saturday, November 3, 1:30-7:00 ET on ESPN
Santa Anita will host the 29th running of the Breeders' Cup World Championships on November 2-3, 2012.
This will be the six time the Breeders' Cup has been held in Arcadia, California, the last time that was hosted at this venue was in 2008 and 2009, on both times it set records of attendance as well as wagering on all the races. Before this it also hosted the event on 1986, 1993 and 2003. Hollywood Park hosted the inaugural
Breeders' Cup in 1984 and again in 1987 and 1997.
“We are thrilled to bring back the Breeders’ Cup to southern California which is always a strong draw for horseracing fans from around the world and where the Breeders’ Cup has always been embraced by the community,” said Craig Fravel, President & CEO of Breeders’ Cup. “Santa Anita Park is a world class racing venue that will once again provide a spectacular setting for two days of the best in international racing.”
The two-day event will be televised live on ESPN and ABC to a worldwide audience in more than 130 countries, it is the richest prize-monet event in sports, consisting of 15 races and purses totaling $26 million. In the past five years this horseracing event has grown significantly from 8 races to 15 and money wise from $14 million to $26 million, the wagering increasing from $140,33,198 to $173,339,131.
