Warwick Hills prepares to host this year's Buick Open. Buick announced that an agreement has been reached to continue the Buick Open at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Mich. through 2010. Warwick Hills is one of the highest rated private courses in Michigan, with large greens and wide fairways which are heavily bunkered. In recent years the tournament has included the likes of Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.
The Buick Open tournament has been held at Warwick since 1958. Although it has been held at a variety of venues and some years not been a part of the PGA Tour.
The Buick Open was played at Warwick Hills in Grand Blanc for its first decade. After 1969, professional golf events in the area fell off the PGA Tour schedule and a series of pro-ams and other similarly unofficial events took place, mostly at Flint Elks Country Club in Grand Blanc. The Buick Open made its return to the PGA Tour in 1977 at Flint Elks County Club, and in 1978 the event returned to Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club, where it has remained to the present.
2001 Buick Open winner Kenny Perry won the event and for the second time won it last year in 2008. Perry took home $900,000 in prize money and a brand new Buick. Perry finished 19 under par with Bubba Watson and Woody Austin finishing in second place. Kenny Perry will be defending his title again in the Buick Open 2009.
Buick is title-sponsor of three PGA Tour events in 2009: The Buick Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.; the Buick Open; and the Buick Championship.
Tiger wins Buick Open by three strokes
Woods shot a 3-under 69 and coasted to a three-shot victory with a 20-under 268 total at Warwick Hills, which hosted its first Buick Open in 1958 and seemed to stage its final one Sunday.
