2012 STP 400 Kansas Speedway

This is the most recent addition to the Nascar Sprint Cup Series schedule, the STP 400 was added for the 2011 Championship, it will be the first out of two races that will be held at the Kansas Speedway. The Hollywood Casino 400 is the other race that will be held late September/begining of October. The STP 400 will take place on April 22nd, 2012, with a distance of 400.5 miles with 267 laps.
The Kansas Speedway was built because of a need to have a speedway in the Midwest region, in 1997 the site was selected, which was at the intersection of interstates 70 and 435. The actual construction began in May of 1999, NASCAR drivers Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace and Kenny Schrader help kick off the event along with NASCAR President, the late Bill France, Jr., International Speedway Corporation (ISC) President and Chief Operating Officer, Jim France and ISC Executive Vice President, Lesa Kennedy. It has a 1.5 mile tri-oval track and 75,000 seats, it was opened to the public on June 2001; this was the inaugural race weekend and running of the NASCAR Winston West Series Kansas 150 and ARCA RE/Max Series BPU 200. In September of that same year NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Winston Cup Series racing come to the Kansas City Speedway.
The hotel/casino was opened to the public just last month on February 12, it overlooks turn two. The state-of-the-art casino features a 100,000 square feet (9,300 m2) gaming floor capacity for 2,300 slot machines, 61 table games and 25 poker tables. In addition to this it also features restaurants, clubs and nightlife attractions.
This year the track will go under massive contruction mainly on the track area. Mayor work will be done by repaving the existing track surface, reconfirguration of the oval to accommodate as much as 20 degrees of new variable banking in the turns currently it has 15 degrees and the additions of the new infield road course.
