Established in 1979, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf is considered the world’s most exclusive golf tournament—a distinguished and renowned competition presenting the winners of the current season’s four Major Championships including the Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship.  The Grand Slam’s illustrious history began at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, where 1978 U.S. Open champion Andy North and 1978 Masters champion Gary Player shared the trophy as joint winners.

The tournament is now a 36-hole two-day event that’s broadcast to a television audience in more than 100 countries. It was moved around the world several times, from Poipo Bay golf Course in Kauai, Hawaii from 1994-2006, then in 2007 it moved to Bermuda, after that in 2009 it move to it’s current location in Port Royal Golf Course, Southampton, Parish Bermuda.

Port Royal Golf Course was founded in 1970 and designed by architect Robert Trent Jones. Sr.  Recently, it went through a $14.5 million renovation for the 2009/2010 Grand Slam of Golf.

The foursome for the 29th PGA Grand Slam of Golf features the winner of the following major championships: The Masters, April 7-10, at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. winner Charl Schwartzel; the 111th U.S. Open Championship, June 16-19, at Congressional Country Club in Potomac, Md. winner Rory Mcllroy; the 140th Open Championship, July 14-17, at Royal St. George's, England winner Darren Clarke; and the 93rd PGA Championship, Aug. 8-14, at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga. winner Bill Haas. Past PGA Grand Slam of Golf Champions include: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Els, Tom Lehman, Ben Crenshaw, Greg Norman and Nick Price.

The trophy is made up of 5 crystals in graduating sizes, representing the 4 Majors that qualify players to compete in tournament, culminating in the Grand Slam of Golf. It measures 27 inches in height and weighs 50 pounds. The winner’s name each year is inscribed on the trophy which appropriately depicts golf’s most difficult event to earn an entry place.
