Kelly Pavlik (35-1, 31 KOs), the current The Ring, WBC, and WBO middleweight champion, will put his middleweight titles on the line against Miguel Espino (20-2-1, 9 KOs) on December 19, 2009 at Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio. The fight with Espino comes after Pavlik pulled out of two previous scheduled fight dates with Paul Williams due to a staph infection.
Kelly Pavlik (born April 5, 1982) is an American professional boxer. He is The Ring, WBC, and WBO middleweight champion, defeating Jermain Taylor to earn those titles. A native of blue collar Youngstown, Ohio, Pavlik was hailed as perhaps the sport's next matinee idol when he bravely rose from being floored and nearly knocked out in the second round of his seventh-round stoppage of previously, unbeaten and undisputed middleweight champion, Jermain Taylor.
Miguel Angel Espino, was placed on the West Coast Team in reality tv show The Contender, and was matched against Peter Manfredo, the high-ranked boxer who had been reinstated into the show by popular vote amongst the contestants. He was unlucky to lose, the three judges giving Manfredo 144 points and Espino 141, the maximum for the five round fight being 150. He is currently world-rated No. 3 by the WBC.
