The Pennsylvania 400 is one of two races held at Pocono Raceway and the other being the Pocono500.
The Pennsylvania 400 comes in the heat of the summer, usually early August, right after the Brickyard 400, in Indianapolis.
Pocono Raceway is considered one of NASCAR's most competitive raceways. Pocono's unique 2.5 mile track features three turns, with different degrees of banking making it a tough track for any driver.
The race is full of lead changes especially with the long straightaway and wide pit road. |

Pocono Solar Project
In August of 2010 the 3MW Pocono Solar Project came online after just 3 months of construction. Consisting of nearly 40,000 American made photovoltaic modules covering 25 acres, the Project will produce more than 72 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy over the next 20 years. The environmental attributes associated with the system will offset more than 3,100 Metric Tons of carbon dioxide annually, Carbon Dioxide emissions from 106,529 propane BBQ grills and it will generate enough power to provide the electricity needs for close to 1,000 homes beyond the power needs of the Raceway.
Recycling
Pocono Raceway was the first raceway to be part of the PepsiCo Dream Machine program. With this program, Dream Machine bins and kiosks are located throughout the Grandstand and Infield to make it easier for race fans to recycle bottles and cans. For each bottle or can deposited in the Dream Machine kiosk, you can earn points that can be collected and redeemed for rewards at Greenopolis.com and PepsiCo will make a donation to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV). Anheuser-Busch has also contributed recycling bins to the track in hopes of reducing the amount of recyclables that are being thrown in the trash.
NASCAR Clean Air Tree Planting Program
As part of the program, 10 trees will be planted for every green flag that drops during future NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events. This will help reduce the carbon footprint of the sport and bring conservation awareness to NASCAR fans.
