The Pepsi 500 is the yearly race held at the end of the NASCAR season at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. The Auto Club 500 is also a race held here each year. Beginning in 2004, the Pepsi 500 was added to the changes made in NASCAR as a whole. It was also not very popular with race fans as being a good choice. The Pepsi 500 is always held at night and on Labor Day Weekend on a Sunday. The disapproval of the crowd may be because this was the former date of the Southern 500 held at the Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.
California Speedway has signed a multi-year deal with Pepsi to serve as the title sponsor of the NASCAR Sprint Cup series race, which will now be known as the Pepsi 500. Pepsi will continue to serve as the Speedway's official soft drink and non-alcoholic beverage provider, and the Pepsi 500 will include a special Pepsi Smash concert and unique on-site activities.
Jimmie Johnson won the 2009 Pepsi 500
Jimmie Johnson won the Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway, beating Jeff Gordon to the checkered flag by 1.60 seconds. Juan Pablo Montoya, Mark Martin and Tony Stewart round out the top 5 in the running order. Jimmie Johnson pushed the #48 Chevrolet to an average speed of 143.908 mph and led 126 of the race's 250 laps, taking home $302,801. The race ran 3:28:28 and saw 29 lead changes. Due to 8 yellow flags, the race spent 30 laps under caution.

Other winners include fellow Californian and teammate in the NASCAR odds competition, Jimmie Johnson, Vancouver, WA native, Greg Biffle and Missouri-born Carl Edwards.
