2009 Sharpie 500 Predictions
The Sharpie 500
The great venue of Bristol Speedway, with its tradition of hosting events of great speed and performance, make the Sharpie 500 one of the most popular races on the NASCAR schedule. This will be a bumping and banging race with the last man standing taking the checkers.
Bristol Motor Speedway has been an integral part of auto racing since 1961. It currently hosts both the Sharpie 500 and the Food City 500, along NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Racing and NASCAR Nationwide Series Racing. The track has a distance of .533 miles and is an oval course. The short track makes for slower speeds, but that is offset by the high banking of the turns at Bristol, a challenging aspect like no other track on the NASCAR circuit. It also creates a traffic jam that leads to lots of bumping and jostling on the track as drivers jockey for position.
The fact that the race is at night only seems to add fuel to the fire. Drivers are used to racing in the afternoon, so I suppose waiting until night has many of these guys very overanxious to get out on the track. Or maybe they just want to put on a good show for the primetime audience.
The Sharpie 500 NASCAR competition is going to start this Wednesday August 19th. The main race, the Sharpie 500 will be taking place this Saturday at the Bristol Speedway at Tennessee, USA. The competition will be starting at 7:30 PM ET. Read more
