The Shell Houston Open will be played the week of March 26th-April 1st, 2012. The Houston Golf Association provides funding to the following charities. Boys and Girls Harbor, Inc., Chinquapin School, Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Gulf Coast & Lousiana, Inc., Cenikor Foundation, Inc., Acres Home Youth Association. The Shell Houston Open Birdies for Charity program enalbes local non-profit organizations to take advantage of this PGA Tour event and generation funds on the numbers of birdies scored during the tournament.
The Restone golf Club was constructed to host a PGA Tour event, designed by Rees Jones and David Toms. It has 7,457 yards, par-72 layout. It is an open-to-all, daily free course. The course has wetlands filled with native plants and flowers, it gives fans easy access via fairway crosswalks to move from front nice to back nine to be able to follow the tournament. The construction started in November of 2003 and the opening of the course was in August of 2005.
Jones, has also designed two other courses in the Houston area which include, ShadowHawk Golf Club and The Houstonian Country Club.
