The Transitions Championship is a 72- hole official PGA TOUR competition, along the regular golf events many activites will take place during the week of March 11th-18th, 2012 to enhance how important it is the connection between having a healthy sight and overall healthy lifestyle. This time the Transitions is going to take place at the Copperhead course at Innisbrook which is a Golf, Spa and Resort located at Tampa Bay, Florida.
The Copperhead course was opened in 1974, in 1997 it was purchased by Westin INC and restored in 1999. It is a 72-hole complex course with natural elevation changes that go up to 80 feet, not so normal for coastline Southwest Florida area. The course started with 7.295 yards when it was restored in 1999, it got increased to 7.340 yards adding five holes. It reopened for the JCPenney Classic over $500,000 was spent on the restoration of this course.
The Copperheads stared 32 years ago, the main purpose of this organization is aiding Tampa Bay area charities through professional golf events. The new sponsor for this competition is Transitions Optical, a leading manufacturer of photo-chromatic lenses. This will be the second event with a purse of $5.4 million, with this it guarantees a nice amount of PGA Tour professionals. The Copperheads provide golf fans of the Tampa Bay area with a first-class professional golf tournament as well as raising funds for local area charities. In the last five years the organization has been able to raised over $8 million for Tampa Bay area charities.
Birdies for Tampa Bay Charities is a program that let local charities be part of the fundraising program. This is a grass roots fundraising program designed to give all 501 charities an opportunity to generate contributions for their organizations based on the number of “birdies” made by contestants during the tournament. The Bonus Pool for the 2012 Transitions Championship Birdies for Tampa Bay Charities will guarantee a 15% Bonus Pool payment on the first $1 million in paid pledges/donations received. All paid pledges received after we reach $1 million in paid pledges will receive a 10% Bonus Pool payment.

The Transitions Championship faced the end this Sunday March 21st at the Innisbrook Golf and Spa Resort located at Tampa Bay, Florida.
