UFC 83: SERRA VS. ST-PIERRE 2 - Saturday, April 19, live on Pay-Per-View from Montreal, Quebec.
The main event on that card is George “Rush” St Pierre who is from Montreal Canada, and
will have the home town crowd and his country behind him and he will square off with
Matt “the terror” Serra from Long Island New York.
One year ago, Matt “The Terror” Serra shocked the world by defeating Georges “Rush” St-Pierre
for the UFC Welterweight Championship. Now, after defeating Matt Hughes in December,
St-Pierre enters the Octagon as the Interim Welterweight Champion to face the man who took
his title - this time, in his home province of Quebec. Can Serra beat St-Pierre for a
second time? The undisputed king of the 170-pound weight class will be determined at UFC 83.
St. Pierre, a native of Montreal, will be fighting in front of his hometown under the UFC
banner for the first time in his career. After originally speculating that St. Pierre would
not be ready in time for the event due to his bout against Matt Hughes in December, St. Pierre
came away with the interim welterweight belt relatively unscathed, allowing him to partake in
the historic event.
Georges “Rush” St. Pierre is the current Interim UFC Welterweight Champion. He has a professional
MMA record of 15-2 and is widely considered to be one of the top pound-for-pound MMA fighters
in the world, along with Quinton Jackson, Fedor Emelianenko, and Anderson Silva.
St. Pierre has a rare combination of accuracy, speed, and power. He is a dynamic striker on his
feet using a combination of body kicks, stiff jabs, and the occasional superman punch.
He has also beaten a who’s who list of MMA fighters including Sean Sherk (former UFC Lightweight Champion),
B.J. Penn (current UFC Lightweight Champion, former UFC Welterweight Champion), and
Matt Hughes twice (former 2-time UFC elterweight Champion).
