UFC 84 main event: current lightweight champion BJ “The Prodigy” Penn takes on Sean “Muscle Man” Sherk to
determine the undisputed king of the 155-pounders. Intriguing light heavyweight matches between Tito Ortiz
and Lyoto Machida as well as Keith Jardine vs. Wanderlei Silva will serve as co-main events.
Thiago Silva (12-0) is now set to face UFC newcomer, Antonio Mendes (14-2) at UFC 84.
The undefeated Brazilian, who last fought at UFC 78: Validation, in which he scored a first round TKO over
Houston Alexander, will now take on a fellow Brazilian in the form of Antonio Mendes. Mendes went 9-0 in
2007 and fights out of Europe Top Team.
Two welterweight bouts featuring several prospects for the UFC’s 170 pound division have been added
to the undercard of UFC 84 scheduled for May 24 in Las Vegas. Koppenhaver, Yoshida, Tan, and Kim added
to UFC 84 undercard; 11 bouts now planned for May fight card.
The bouts added include season six “Ultimate Fighter” reality TV show alumnus Jon Koppenhaver taking on
Yoshiyuki Yoshida and Jason Tan squaring off against Korean fighter Dong Hyun Kim.
Koppenhaver last fought for the UFC during the live season finale of TUF 6 on December 8. He recorded a
third round TKO over Jared Rollins in a fight that was discussed as a possible fight of the year
candidate by several pundits.
Yoshida, who has never fought in the UFC before, has a lifetime pro MMA record of 9-2. He has competed
for both the SHOOTO and Cage Force promotions.
