UFC 111: George St-Pierre vs Dan Hardy

Date: March 27th, 2010
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Venue: Prudential Center
Broadcast: Pay-per-view

Once again the Ultimate Fight Championship has announced another of its editions. This time the venue will be the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The event is scheduled to March 27, 2010 and all the nation is excited to have once again the event within the United States.

This time, the fight that every one is waiting is the one between St-Pierre and Hardy, neither of them are from the United States. Pierre is from Canada and Hardy is from England. Without a doubt the fight is going to be a total success.

There are some modifications to the competition. Martin Kampmann was originally set to fight Ben Saunders, but Kampmann was replaced by Jake Ellenberger due to a deep cut suffered in training by Kampmann. Another of the changes is that Spike TV will be broadcasting UFC preliminary bouts one hour before the PPV broadcast begins. Judging by the order of fights on this card, the bouts most likely to feature on the Spike TV broadcast are Nate Diaz vs. Rory Markham and Ricardo Almeida vs. Matt Brown

Here we have the complete menu of fights for the night. There aren’t that many fights as in other editions of the event, but the ones that we will have that night are loaded with action and power.

Kurt Pellegrino took over Fabricio Camoes by submission.
Jon Fitch beat Ben Saunders by unanimous decision.
Jim Miller won over Mark Bocek by unanimous decision.

Georges St-Pierre defeated Dan Hardy by unanimous decision after a 5 round match. The MMA gave George St. Pierre the best score in every round; it was a never ending battle of kicks and punches that favored St. Pierre in every one of them. Both fighters gave a great performance. Amazing escape by Hardy on the first round, he did a good job trying to diminish the blows through out the bout, but it was not enough to stop and conquer the win over St. Pierre. Georges did his part, he knew where and when to apply his tactics which at the end gave him the victory of UFC 111.

Both of the main fighters are really experienced. Georges St-Pierre was born May 19, 1981, in Saint-Isidore, Quebec, to Jim and Louise St-Pierre. Often referred to as GSP, is currently the Welterweight Champion of the UFC, and is ranked as one of the top "pound for pound" fighters by multiple MMA sources. St-Pierre has been praised by many media outlets for his skill, and he is currently ranked by multiple MMA publications as the number-one welterweight in the world. In 2008 and in 2009, he was named the Canadian Athlete of the Year by Rogers Sportsnet, as well as the 2008 Most Outstanding Fighter by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Georges St-Pierre also won fighter of the year by the 2009 World MMA Awards.

St-Pierre had a difficult childhood, attending a school where others would steal his clothes and money. He started learning Kyokushin karate at age seven by his father and later by a Kyokushin Karate Master to defend himself against a school bully. He took up wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after his karate teacher died, and he also trained in boxing. Before turning pro as a mixed-martial artist, St-Pierre worked as a bouncer at a Montreal Gay night club in the South Shore called Fuzzy Brossard and as a garbageman for six months to pay for his school fees.

On the other hand, Dan Hardy (born May 17, 1982) is an English professional mixed martial artist who competes in the welterweight division. A professional MMA competitor since 2004, Hardy fought in various promotions such as Cage Force and Cage Warriors before signing a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2008. He is the current Cage Warriors welterweight and light-welterweight champion. His nickname comes from the time he spent on the CageWarriors.com forums under the name "The Outlaw". At the time, Hardy was looking for new training partners after his former coach and him could not see eye-to-eye. Hardy is currently ranked by Sherdog as the #4 welterweight fighter in the world.

Hardy had been training in Tae Kwon Do since he was six years old. He moved on when taekwondo went down the Olympic route. He wanted real fights, so switched to Muay Thai instead. Hardy only became interested in Mixed Martial Arts after spending two months in China training with the Shaolin monks in 2002. He then came back to England and competed in amateur MMA tournaments until his professional debut in 2004. Hardy is a member of Team Rough House alongside Paul Daley, Andre Winner and Dean Amasinger. Hardy has also spent time training at Xtreme Couture, Leicester Shootfighters and the Wildcard Boxing Gym. He just received his Purple Belt in 10th planet jiu jitsu from Eddie Bravo.
