UFC 89 will be headlined by a middleweight bout featuring Chris “The Crippler” Leben and Michael “The Count” Bisping.

The show will be headlined by Michael Bisping vs Chris Leben. If you'll remember, these two were supposed to square off at UFC 85, but Leben had to pull himself off of the show due to some unresolved legal problems in the United States. Leben has taken care of his issues, and will now be allowed to fight in the UK.

Michael Bisping (-200) vs Chris Leben (+160) - Bisping is a "hometown" boy, born and raised in England. This should prove to be a big advantage for Bisping. Bisping has a nearly perfect record of 16-1-0, with his sole loss coming to Rashad Evans at UFC 78 via split decision. Bisping has scored impressive victories over the likes of Jason Day, Charles McCarthy and Matt Hamill during his time in the UFC.

You have to assume that a victory over Leben at UFC 89 would give Bisping a shot at the middleweight title. That, combined with the fact that UFC 89 will be taking place in England, should put Bisping over the top in this fight.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has added three thrilling bouts to the organisation’s next UK super-show. It has been confirmed that Rameau Sokoudjou will collide with Luiz Cane in a battle of light-heavyweight strikers, Japanese submission expert Akihiro Gono will take on on highly-regarded British debutant Dan Hardy and steel-fisted
heavyweight Shane Carwin will exchange bombs with England’s own Neil Wain.

Paul Kelly vs. Marcus Davis will Also fight at UFC 89 on October 18, 2008 at The National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.

Paul Kelly, a native of England, possesses an unblemished MMA record of 7-0. Kelly holds TKO victories over Nigel Whitear, James Neal, Bruce Davis, and Jordan James. Kelly made his UFC debut in January 2008 at UFC 80: Rapid Fire scoring a unanimous decision over Paul Taylor in what turned out to be the fight of the night.

Davis lost his most recent bout, a unanimous decision at the hands of American Kickboxing Academy’s Mike Swick. Prior to that fight, he had been on an 11-fight winning streak. Although he is an American, Davis has a strong Irish heritage and has fought his past four fights in the U.K.

The UFC 89 clash between undefeated Brazilian light heavyweights Thiago Silva and Lyoto Machida will not go off as planned, as Silva has suffered a back injury that will keep him out until December.

The Silva-Machida match-up was a big one for the UFC light heavyweight division, as Machida is widely believed to be just one more win away from earning a title shot, and Silva could enter the title picture, too, if he were to beat Machida. It's unclear whether Machida will still fight at UFC 89, and if so, who his opponent might be.

Spike TV will carry UFC 89 on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England. The event, the promotion’s third inside Great Britain this year.
