UFC 94, which takes place Jan. 31 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and features the rematch between
welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and lightweight champion B.J. Penn.
Two light heavyweight bouts will be featured on this UFC 94 Fight Card. One pits undefeated Brazilians
Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva against each other in a match with title shot implications. In the other,
Stephan Bonnar, who has won two straight in the UFC since losing an August 2006 rematch to Forrest Griffin,
will fight unbeaten prospect Jon Jones.
UFC light heavyweights Stephan Bonnar Vs. Jon Jones
TUF 1 finalist Stephan Bonnar is set to return to the Octagon for the first time since last October.
For Bonnar, who was the light heavyweight runner-up during the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter,
it would mark his first fight since Oct. 20, 2007, when he recorded a second round TKO over Eric Schafer
at UFC 77.
Bonnar is 11-4 overall during his MMA career and is 5-3 in eight career bouts contested under the UFC banner
with notable wins over Sam Hoger, Keith Jardine, and James Irvin.
Jones, a 20 year old High School state champ wrestler, JUCO national champion wrestler who looked impressive
in his MMA debut. A member of Team Bomb Squad. Some up and coming camp that specialized in converting collegiant
wrestlers.
Jones began his professional MMA career in April of this year, and racked up six straight victories, including
a unanimous decision over Andre Gusmao in his August UFC debut. With his amateur wrestling background and
unconventional striking, Jones may prove to be a tough welcome-back fight for the newly-rehabbed Bonnar.
Lyoto Machida Vs. Thiago Silva
Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida (13-0) has one all five of his match in the UFC. Machida brings something
you do not normally see in the UFC, Karate. If you watch his fight you will see Machida strike and as
soon as an opponent start to counter back out. It may be boring but it frustrates must of his opponents
and get Machida the win.
Thiago Silva (13-0) will be making his fifth appearance in the UFC. He has only been to the second round
once and has three TKO victories. This could be intresting fight.
Also on the main card, No. 9-ranked welterweight Karo Parisyan will return to the Octagon
for the first time since he was stopped by Thiago Alves last April. He will meet the “Stun Gun,” Dong Hyun Kim.
