12 Rounds for Vazquez's WBO junior featherweight title, on Saturday October 16th , at the Kissimmee Civic Center at the Silver Spurs Arena of the Osceola Heritage Park.
The undefeated super Bantamweight Champion of the World Boxing Organization, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, will make the second defense of his title, when he meets his toughest opponent so far in Ivan “Choko”Hernandez, of Ensenada, Mexico in a bout schedule for 12 rounds, with the 122 pound division crown at stake.
Vazquez is the first Puerto Rican World Champion who is the son of a former World Champion, Wilfredo Vazquez Sr. (who now serves as his coach) he is continuing the rich Puerto Rican boxing tradition. (includes his father; former triple world champion) Vazquez (26) is talented, refreshing and on his way to becoming a worldwide star in boxing. “WV2” has fought in Kissimmee 13 of his 20 bouts in route to his world title (won 11 by Knockout). His last win was on February 27th, after defeating “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona of the Philippines in 4 rounds. On his first defense, on May 29th, he stopped former Olympian and number one contender Zsolt Bedak of Hungary in 10.
Former world flyweight champion Hernandez (27) is ranked # 10 by the WBC and WBO, and has fought world champions Mark Johnson, Fernando Montiel , Toshiaki Nishioka and Israel Vazquez. Hernandez two most recent fights were both 5th round knockout wins, against Jaime Maldonado and Lisandro de los Santos. This is going to be the first brawl of a global nature to take place in Kissimmee, without a doubt the location will be playing on Vazquez side, who resides there and there is a lot of Puerto Ricans that support him.
However the experience will be on Hernandez side. The added rivalry drama associated with a Puerto Rican fighting a Mexican insures entertaining hard fought action.
