Among some other changes for the Viking Classic for 2011, the tournament has moved from the Fall Series to the regular PGA Tour playing opposite the British Open.

The Viking Classic is an official PGA Tour event that is played annually, since 2007 it has been sponsor by the Viking Range Corporation. It was played at the end of September, but this year it was move to July at the Annandale Golf Club in Madison Mississippi. This move makes the Viking Classic part of the FedEx Cup regular season. From 1968 to 1993 it was played at the Hattiesburg Country Club in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

It was known as the Magnolia Classic from 1968-1985, then 1986 it was named the Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic. It has been played opposite to The Tour Championship, The World Tour Championships, The Presidents' Cup or the Ryder's Cup.

In 2010 the Viking Classic organized and raised funds for many charities. The United Way of Leflore County was the hightest fundraising organization in the Birdies for Charity program, they were presented with a $36,632.95 check. Following was the Kindness Foundation of Hattiesburg with $18.723.23. The primary goal of the Birdies For Charity program is to successfully solicit and collect pledges, of at least two cents per birdie based on the number of birdies made at the Viking Classic or a donation of $25 or more.

The TOUR's Tournament Advisory Council of the PGA Tour awarded the Viking Classic the "Best Special Event". This honor was given because the tournament organized, three Emeril Lagasse Cooking Demonstration Fundraisers in support of its tournament charity partner, the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children. Donations from the demonstrations generated more than $50,000 for the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.

The Annadale Golf Club is a private 18-hole course that was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1981 in Madison Mississippi. It is 7,177 yards of rolling terrain distinguished by grassy bunkers, bentgrass greens, some of them are elevated, fairways totted with pampas grass and broad lakes. Thirty years ago, the property was a soybean field; Walter Denny one of the club's founders asked Nicklaus to survey the property, and that is how it all started for the first world-class championship course.
