The Fiesta Bowl has been a popular college football bowl game since it began in 1971 and featured the Arizona State Sun Devils Vs Florida State Seminoles. The Devils beat the Seminoles 45-38 and a Fiesta Bowl took its place among the college football Bowl Championship Series. By 1975, the game was able to attract Big Eight co-champion Nebraska to play undefeated Arizona State in a matchup of top five teams.
In 1977, the game was again able to attract a top five opponent in Penn State. In 1998, the Fiesta Bowl became part of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). The Fiesta Bowl is now one of four bowl games that rotate to hold the Bowl Championship game each year. The rotation includes the Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl.
Previous sponsors included Sunkist and IBM. Now Sponsored by Tostitos, the game is officially called the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and was the site of the 1999 and 2003 BCS Championship games.
