Why Bet The Auburn Tigers To Beat The Sooners
The Tigers (8-4 SU, 9-3 ATS) should have plenty of motivation to get the season-ending win after losing two of their final three games, including their regular-season ending 30-12 loss to top-ranked Alabama on Nov. 26. Auburn did manage to cover the college football betting line as whopping 20.5-point underdog against the Crimson Tide to improve to 2-0 ATS over their last two games and 3-2 ATS over their last five.
The good news for Auburn coming into this contest is that starting quarterback Sean White and starting running back Kamryn Pettway will both be back on the field for their season-ender after the two combined to miss a handful of games down the stretch run because of injuries.
Pettway rushed for 1,123 yards and seven touchdowns this season while White completed an impressive 65.2 percent of his passes for 1,644 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Tigers averaged a healthy 32.3 points per game this season to rank 47th in scoring nationally while also ranking a stupendous fifth in points allowed by limiting the opposition to just 15.5 points per game.
Why Bet The Oklahoma Sooners To Beat The Tigers
Oklahoma (10-2 SU, 6-6 ATS) closed out the regular season on a red-hot roll, winning nine consecutive games coming into this contest including their convincing 38-20 win over Oklahoma State in the Big 12 title game on Dec. 3 to easily cover the college football betting line as a 12-point favorite.
The Sooners gave up an overly generous 29.6 points per game this season to rank an uninspiring 75th nationally in points allowed but used their high-powered offense to put up a whopping 44.6 points per game to rank third in scoring.
Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback Baker Mayfield passed for 3,669 yards and 38 touchdowns and has a trio of outstanding players at the skill positions in wide receiver Dede Westbrook (1,465 yards, 16 TDs) and running backs Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon (1,183 yards, 8 TDs).
Auburn Vs Oklahoma Sugar Bowl ATS Pick & Final Score Prediction
While a compelling 69 percent of the betting public likes Oklahoma to get it done in this affair, I’m still a bit surprised that the Sooners aren’t bigger favorites to beat a talent-laden, but mostly clueless Auburn team that clearly has problems to address this coming offseason.
I know Auburn has gone 7-2 ATS in its last nine games and that’s all fine and well, but Oklahoma is 4-1 ATS in its last five games and simply has an offense that is too good, even for Auburn’s stout defense, to keep in check for the vast majority of this contest.
Oklahoma has too much talent at the skill positions to be denied the win in this contest and has the huge edge at quarterback with Baker Mayfield being light years ahead of Auburn’s Sean White. The Sooners will get the convincing win to cap off their season with 10 straight victories.
