Marc Gasol and the seventh-seeded Memphis Grizzlies will look to bounce back from their humbling 111-82 Game 1 loss against Kawhi Leonard and the second-seeded San Antonio Spurs when they take to the court on Monday night for Game 2 of their first round Western Conference playoff series.
With the Grizzlies looking completely overmatched against the Spurs in the second half, let’s find out if they can cover the spread as decisive double-digit road dogs.
Memphis Grizzlies Vs San Antonio Spurs Odds, Betting Advice & TV Info
The Spurs are 10.5-point favorites when they host the Grizzlies on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 9:30 PM ET, live from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas while this contest airs live on TNT. Happy hunting.
When: Monday, April 17, 2017 at 9:30 PM ET
Where: AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas
Spread: San Antonio -10.5
Why Bet The Memphis Grizzlies Odds at +10.5
The best reason to bet on Memphis in Game 2 is that they beat the Spurs twice in four regular season meetings and have an elite defense that finished third in points allowed during the regular season (100.0 ppg).
The Grizzlies also have some quality veteran players on their roster in point guard Mike Conley (20.6 ppg), center Marc Gasol (19.6 ppg) and now, to a lesser degree, aging power forward Zach Randolph (14.1 ppg, 8.2 rpg). Unfortunately, the Grizzlies need more than the six points they got from Z-Bo and the 13 points they got from Conley in Game 1 if they want to pull off the upset.
Why Bet The San Antonio Spurs Odds at -10.5
The No. 1 reason to bet on the Spurs is that they have the best player on the court in this series in MVP contender Kawhi Leonard (25.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.8 spg) and simply too much quality depth for the Grizzlies, especially at the offensive end of the floor. For example, San Antonio got a game-high 32 points from Leonard in Game 1 while LaMarcus Aldridge added 20 points and Tony Parker 18.
While Memphis is known for their outstanding defense, the Spurs also have the edge at the end of the floor as they allow fewer points per game than Memphis. Last but not least, San Antonio also has a huge edge in coaching.
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
The Spurs and Grizzlies split the regular season series 2-2, but the fact of the matter is that the Grizzlies just don’t have enough depth – or quality scorers to kee up with a San Antonio team that has an abundance of players that can consistently put the ball in the hole.
After baking the Grizz to cover the spread in Game 1, I’m now going to urge you to back San Antonio to get another double-digit win to narrowly cover the spread with Memphis going 1-4 ATS in its last five road games and 3-8 ATS in its last 11 games after giving up more than 100 points in its previous contest.
San Antonio hasn’t been setting the league on fire as far as covering the spread, but the Spurs are a near-perfect 5-1 ATS in their last six conference quarterfinal contest and I believe they’ll get it done again in Game 2 by simply outscoring the offensively-challenged Grizzlies when it matters most.
Besides, as I wrote prior to Game 1, Memphis’ uninspiring late season losses to lowly Sacramento, the L.A. Lakers and Detroit Pistons tell me the Grizz are in big trouble against a San Antonio team that looks like its headed for a date in the Western Conference Finals opposite Golden State.
My final score prediction is San Antonio 106 Memphis 95
