UFC signs deal with Spike TV Spike TV and The Ultimate Fighting Championship organization have agreed to a two-year strategic partnership, it was announced by Doug Herzog, President, Spike TV and Dana White, President, Zuffa, LLC d/b/a Ultimate Fighting Championship. In addition the deal includes six LIVE fight cards - two this year and four in 2006.

The Spike TV deal includes the following:

• A second and third season of the highly successful reality series, The Ultimate Fighter. Production for Season 2 will begin in early June 2005 and consist of eight heavyweights and eight welterweights. Celebrity coaches and a host are to be announced. The show will once again be taped in Las Vegas where the company maintains its UFC Training Center.

• Six LIVE fight cards featuring some of the well-known names from UFC sporting events. Two will be in 2005 and four in 2006.

• 26 one-hour episodes of an untitled series of great moments from the UFC vast library of fight footage.

The main event of UFC 52 featured a grudge rematch of two of the best light heavyweights in combat sports as Randy “The Natural” Couture defended his title against “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell in a highly anticipated rematch. Liddell finally achieved his dream by knocking out reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Couture in the first round, to capture his first taste of UFC gold. Couture had never been knocked out prior to this fight. The victory signaled a new area in the UFC as Liddell became the light heavyweight champion. Liddell appeared extremely pleased to redeem himself for the devastating loss he had suffered two years earlier to the very same Randy Couture.

The co-main event also featured a rematch as Matt Hughes defended his welterweight championship against the hard charging Frank Trigg. Hughes successfully defended his UFC welterweight title by submitting challenger Trigg at 4:05 seconds into the very first round, with a rear naked choke (Submission).
