2009 U.S. Open Championship
Bethpage State Park
(Black Course)
Farmingdale, NY
June 15-21, 2009
The 2009 U.S. Open will be held at Bethpage State Park Golf Course in Farmingdale, NY. |
After the immensely successful and historical 2002 U.S. Open, the championship returns for an encore performance to
Bethpage State Park’s Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y. Previously the site of the 1936 U.S. Amateur Public Links
(Blue Course), Bethpage State Park became, in 2002, the first publicly-owned facility to host the Open. This year’s
championship marks the third time in nine years that a municipal golf course plays host to the national championship.
Regarded as the largest public golf facility in the world, Bethpage features five courses centered around one clubhouse.
The challenging Black Course will converge with an energetic New York crowd to once again make the 2009 U.S.
Though only a public golf course, the Bethpage Black caters to the golf elite. Many golfers from all over the country
swarm the park to try their luck. The Black Course is the most challenging of the five golf courses located at Bethpage
and hosted the 2002 US Open golf tournament, which was won by Tiger Woods. Expect the crowds at Bethpage to be loud and
rowdy, which should make the 2009 US Open one of the more memorable golf tournaments in years.

US Open Golf History
The U.S. Open golf championship, first played in 1895, was originally played concurrently with the
U.S. Amateur Open, but both were postponed because of the America's Cup, which was to occur at the
same time. Both were scheduled in Newport, Rhode Island, but the Americas Cup, a yacht race, was more
popular at the time and so the U.S. Open had to be delayed. This year's events begin on June 10, 2008
and will be held at Torry Pines in beautiful La Jolla, California. Though tickets are notoriously hard
to find, Coast to Coast has tickets and packages to all US Open Golf dates. Get yours now and be there
in person to see all the action live at the 2008 US Open!
All 36 holes of the US Open were originally played in one day. That changed in 1898 when the USGA changed
it to a two day event, with 36 holes on each day, for a total of 72 holes. It changed again in 1926,
with 18 holes each day on the first two days, and 36 on the third. Since 1965, the U.S. Open has played
with 18 holes per round, for four days.

US Open Golf Results 2008 - Woods holds off best to win Open |
| The 2008 U.S. Open was one for the ages! It took 91 holes to find a U.S. Open Champion. In the end, it was the great
(and injured) Tiger Woods squeaking by the 20-year tour veteran Rocco Mediate on a sudden death hole at Torrey Pines. |
