NBA Picks Jan 9th-15thJosh Bailey
2017 continues to see great matchups in the NBA. This week it all starts on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Can Memphis control Russell and the high-scoring Oklahoma City Thunder in a tough road matchup? On Friday, is it going to be Boston or Atlanta down in Georgia that gets the win? Memphis is back in action on Sunday, January 15. Can the Grizzlies hold off Jimmy Butler and the Chicago Bulls?Â
NBA Picks Jan 9th-15th
Memphis at Oklahoma City
When:Â Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Chesapeake Arena, Oklahoma City, OK
Analysis: After a two-game losing streak, the Grizzlies came out like gangbusters against NBA Championship favorite Golden State on Jan. 6. Memphis beat Golden State 128 to 119 in overtime. That’s not a good sign for the Warriors. If they can’t beat Memphis by outscoring them, what chances do they have of beating Memphis in a defensive battle?
In any case, Memphis took down Utah 88 to 79 on Jan. 8. Could the Grizzlies make it 3 in a row on Wednesday, Jan. 11? I think so. Memphis is one of the few teams, maybe the only team, in the NBA that can contain Russell Westbrook. The last time Russell faced the Grizzlies, he was good for only 21 points and 5 boards. He had 0 assists while he turned the ball over 6 times.
I like Memphis.
Boston at Atlanta
When:Â Friday, Jan. 13 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Phillips Arena, Atlanta, GA
Analysis: Boston has won 4 in a row going into this week. But, there’s something to consider about Boston’s winning streak. First, the Celtics beat Miami, Utah, Philadelphia, and New Orleans. Second, Boston beat Miami, Utah, Philadelphia, and New Orleans all at home.Â
This week could be much different for the Celtics. On Jan. 10, they take on the Raptors in Toronto. Then, on Jan. 11, they battle Washington at home. That’s two tough games before throwing down with the Hawks in Atlanta on Friday.
Atlanta is 21 and 16 to start the week. The Hawks lead the Southeast Division. They should beat Boston and cover the spread in this Friday match up.
Pick: Â Atlanta
Chicago at Memphis
When:Â Sunday, Jan. 15 at 9:00 pm ET
Where: FedEx Forum, Memphis, TN
Analysis: Chicago versus Memphis on Saturday could be an entertaining game just because the Bulls play tough defense like Memphis. Jimmy Butler, the Bulls’ best all-around player, was held to 5 points, 2 boards, and 4 assists the last time he faced Memphis.
That’s not a good sign. Another bad sign for the Bulls in this matchup is that by the time that they take on the Grizzlies on Sunday, they would have had to battle Oklahoma City on Jan. 9, Washington on the road on Jan. 10, New York on the road on Jan. 12, and New Orleans at home on Jan. 14.
I don’t believe Chicago’s going to be in any position to hang with the Grizzlies this Sunday.
