France Vs. Nigeria World Cup Betting Picks…Who’s Bringing Home the Bacon  ?

France Vs. Nigeria World Cup Betting Picks

Not many soccer analysts gave France a realistic chance to do much during the 2014 World Cup, but my sleeper pick to win it all this year, will enter their knockout stage match against Nigeria looking like one of the top contenders to advance to the next round at the very least.

France routed Honduras 3-0 to win its World Cup opener before going on to man-handle Sweden in its convincing 5-2 loss in their second group stage match. Team manager Didier Deschamps made a smart the decision to rest some of his starters instead of going for the win in their nil-all draw against Ecuador in its group stage closer on Wednesday. France vs. Nigeria Round of 16 Betting Line

Line: France (-1, -120) vs. Nigeria (+1, Even)

The Les Bleus have gotten a ton of stellar performances from numerous players on their roster. Striker Karim Benzema has scored three goals and tallied two assists. The team’s trio of midfielders, Cabaye, Blaise Matuidi and Paul Pogba has more than held their own, often dominating their opponents more often than not. According to fivethirtyeight.com, France has a solid 76% chance of getting out of this round and into the semifinals.

French defender Bacary Sagna recently told reporters, "we aspire to win trophies and, for me, it would be a failure not to win the World Cup. The objective is becoming and more and more precise," adding that "we’re four games from the title and we want to do it."

France has been the best attacking team this World Cup, with seven goals scored on just 62 attempts. 13 shots were blocked, 19 were saved and 23 were off target.

Nigeria went 1-1-1 in their three group stage matches to advance to the knockout stage and looked really solid in their narrow 3-2, stage closing loss to mighty Argentina on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles kicked off their 2014 World Cup with a respectable 0-0 draw against mediocre Iran before going on to shut out Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 in its second match.

Now, the will look to use their overwhelming speed and virtually peerless counterattacking style to pull off the knockout stage upset and set themselves up to advance to the semifinal round.

Gifted 21-year-old striker Ahmed Musa scored two goals in Nigeria’s 3-2 loss to Lionel Messi and Argentina and he will look to lead the way in this match as well. Musa will need some help in this match from fellow forward Peter Odemwingie if they are to pull off the upset in this match against a French team that is a lot better than anyone thought (except myself and Pele).

Musa went on to say that his team will need to play even better in order to beat France.

"We need to defend well, take our chances up front and learn from the Argentina game. In the second round, it’s winner takes all. I know with hard work and God’s support we shall make history,” Musa said. "But prayers without hard work is nothing, so we need to be at our best against France to make it happen."

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi, who made his own history at this tournament by becoming the first Nigerian to take the Super Eagles past the group stage, praised Musa for his individual performance against Argentina.

"It’s a team effort but you need to let Musa know he was awesome," Keshi told BBC Sport.

Nigeria has scored just three goals on an average of 14 shot attempts per match while France has put up seven on an average of 20.7 shots per match.

Nigeria has just a 24% chance of getting out of the knockout round and a six (2%) percent chance of reaching the seminal round.

My Pick France vs. Nigeria Round of 16 Betting Line Pick:

In the end, I believe France’s diversity, experience and equally-impressive footwork will  help them win this match, though it certainly won’t be a cakewalk. I like Nigeria to score at least once in a match that looks like a one-goal win for France just waiting to happen.

Expect Thriller in Netherlands vs. Mexico Betting Line Favorites

Expect Thriller in Netherlands vs. Mexico Betting Line Favorites

The Netherlands, who are 1/2 goal favorites on the World Cup betting line, should continue their dominance in World Cup play against Mexico on Sunday at Estádio Castelão. Click here for more World Cup betting odds.

Mexico has looked very solid in beating Cameroon 1-0 in their opener, playing Brazil to a scoreless draw and taking out overmatched Croatia 3-1 on Sunday to advance to the round of 16. Mexico has now advanced out of the group stage at six consecutive World Cups, one of only three teams to do so (along with Brazil and Germany).

Netherlands vs. Mexico Betting Line

Line: Netherlands (-1/2, +105) at Mexico (+1/2, +125)
Draw +250
Over/Under Total 2.5

Mexico’s back line has been tremendous defensively through three matches thanks mostly to the outstanding playing of keeper Guillermo Ochoa, who has made outstanding saves in each of their three games this tournament.

Mexico has gotten some outstanding offensive play from Manchester United star Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez (four goals in six appearances) and Villarreal star Giovani Dos, with both players attacking early and often in each of their matches.

The Netherlands have looked like the best offensive team in the 2014 World Cup so far, scoring a whopping 10 goals in three group matches while allowing just two which makes the 1/2 goal World Cup betting line might be the value bet of the tournament.

The Dutch men’s team made a spectacular announcement to the world by pounding defending champion Spain 5-0 in its opener before taking out Australia 3-2 and shutting out Chile 2-0.

The Netherlands are led by two of the best scorers in the world in team leader Robin van Persie and fellow striker Arjen Robben. Both stars have three goals apiece heading into their Round of 16 match against Mexico.

The Dutch have also gotten some outstanding offensive play from Memphis Depay (two goals), Daley Blind (three assists) and Wesley Sneijder as they routinely attack opponents and force them into routine mistakes.

My Pick: I really like the way Mexico has played so far during their run to the Round of 16, but this is where the party ends for the Mexican men’s team as they simply do not have enough offense – or defense – to slow down the steamrolling Dutch.

I like the Netherlands to win while the Over 2.5 goals plays out.

Brazil vs. Chile World Cup Predictions

Brazil vs. Chile World Cup Predictions

Brazil came into the World Cup as heavy tournament favorites as the host nation while Chile weren’t even predicted to get out of Group B and now they will face-off in the round of 16. Brazil is favored to win the game by a goal at even money. Click here for more World Cup betting odds.

Outside of their 2-0 shutout loss to now dispatched Spain in Game 2, Chile has looked very good in going 2-1 in three Group B matches. The Chileans stomped on Australia in their 3-1 World Cup opening win, though they enter this match coming off a humbling 2-0 loss to the Netherlands on Monday.

Unfortunately for Chile, my World Cup betting prediction for this matchup is not positive. In 15 matches against their fellow South Americans, Chile has won just once and drawn twice while losing 13 times and allowing a whopping average of 2.81 goals per game.

More recently however, Chile has shown they can compete with the hosts of this year’s World Cup. A year ago, Chile played the Brazilians to a 2-2 draw while losing another friendly 2-1.

Chile’s consistent attacking style should give them a legitimate chance to win this match – as long as Chilean captain and goalkeeper Claudio Bravo brings his ‘A’ game that is.

Brazil pounded Croatia 3-1 in its World Cup opener before playing surprising Mexico to a nil all draw in their second Group A match. Brazil routed overmatched Cameroon 4-1 on Monday to win the group and advance to this match, but they’ll face a much tougher team in this Round of 16 match.

While the Brazilians have gotten four fantastic goals from superstar forward Neymar, the rest of the team has not lived up to every experts World Cup betting prediction. I believe the home crowd and the immense talent of Brazil will overwhelm an overmatched Chilean team.

My Pick: Brazil 3 goals to 1.
