Why Bet The Temple Owls To Beat The Nay Midshipmen
The Owls (9-3 SU, 11-1 ATS) enter the AAC Championship game on fire, having won six straight games including their emphatic 37-10 blowout of East Carolina this past Saturday while covering the spread as a whopping 22.5-point favorite.
Running back Jahad Thomas rushed for a team-high 152 rushing yards and two scores to lead the Owls to victory.
This season, Temple is averaging a healthy 32.8 points per game to rank 46th nationally as Thomas has led the way by rushing for a team-high 856 yards and 18 touchdowns. Quarterback Phillip Walker has completed an uninspiring 57.9 percent of his passes while throwing 18 TD passes but a costly 12 interceptions.
Defensively, Temple has been mostly outstanding this season in limiting the opposition to just 17.8 points per game to rank a stupendous 10th nationally in points allowed. The Owls rank 26th nationally against the pass and a jaw-dropping second against the run (128.0 ypg).
Why Bet The Navy Midshipmen To Beat The Temple Owls
The 25th ranked Midshipmen (9-2 SU, 7-3-1 ATS) have won four straight including
their regular season ending 75-31 blowout over SMU this past weekend while easily covering the spread as a 7-point favorite.
Quarterback Will Worth completed 5 of 7 passes for 104 yards and one touchdown while adding 107 rushing yards and three scores on just 15 carries. This season Navy is averaging a stellar 41.7 points per game to rank 11th nationally in scoring thanks mostly to their second-ranked rushing attack which averages a stunning 342.0 yards per game.
Worth has completed a solid 61.7 percent of his passes this season with eight touchdowns and three picks while rushing for a team-high 1,363 yards. Defensively, Navy is allowing their opponents to average a whopping 30.1 points per game to rank 76th nationally.
Expert ATS Pick & Final Score Prediction
I don’t know why a decisive 78 percent of public bettors are backing the Navy Midshipmen to cover the spread as 3-point home favorites, but I’m going to advise against it.
While Navy has one of the best rushing attacks I the country, Temple has one of the best run-stopping defenses in the nation. I’m fully expecting the Owls to limit Navy’s rushing attack while forcing them into uncomfortable passing situations.
The Owls are an experienced bunch and have one of the country’s best coaches in my opinion in Vern Rhule. Not only that, Navy’s defense is lacking and Temple has some playmakers, starting with running back Jahad Thomas.
The Owls are 5-0 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and a seriously consistent 24-8 ATS in their last 32 conference games.
The Midshipmen are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 home games and 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 conference games. However, with Temple going 4-1 ATS in their last five road dates against Navy and 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings overall, I say the Owls are a great underdog pick in this one!
My final score prediction is Temple 35 – Navy 31
