NHL Expert Picks March 12-18

NHL Expert Picks March 12-18

With the 2017-18 NHL regular season almost over, it’s time for another round of NHL picks of the week. Six Stanley Cup trophy hopefuls are in action in three separate matchups this coming week. Now, let’s find some NHL betting value!

NHL Expert Picks March 12-18

Vegas Golden Knights (43-19-5) at Philadelphia Flyers (34-23-11)
When: Mon. Mar 12, 2018 7:00 PM
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA

The Knights have won two of their last three games including an emphatic 4-0 shutout win over Detroit on Thursday night. More importantly, Vegas has gone 19-12-3 on the road this season and that’s better than Philadelphia’s 16-11-6 home record. Not only that, but Philly lost five straight heading into their Saturday night matchup against Buffalo. We all know the story about the expansion Knights by now. Despite their recent struggles (2-4 over their last six games), Vegas is very legitimate! Hopefully, you’re a believer by now. If not, maybe another win over the Flyers will make you become one.

Pick: Knights 4 Flyers 2

Winnipeg Jets (41-17-9) at Nashville Predators (44-14-9)
When: Tue. Mar 13, 2018 7:00 PM
Where: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, TN

Winnipeg is playing excellent hockey right now, having won four straight and six of their last seven games including their hard-fought 3-2 win over New Jersey on Thursday. Unfortunately for the Jets, they’re taking on a Nashville Predators team that is the hottest team in all of hockey right now, having won 10 straight games including a 4-2 win over Anaheim on Thursday night. Nashville is ranked first in the NHL in goals allowed (2.5 gpg), they’re playing at home with a lot on the line and against a division rival. Back the Predators to hold it down people!

Pick: Nashville 4 Winnipeg 2

Boston Bruins (42-15-8) at Tampa Bay Lightning (47-17-4)
When: Sat. Mar 17, 2018 7:00 PM
Where: Amalie Arena, Tampa, FL

Boston is playing great hockey right now, having won five straight and seven of their last nine games heading into the weekend, including their 3-2 win over Philadelphia on Thursday. It’s too bad the Bruins are taking on a Tampa Bay team that is even hotter than they are. The Lightning have won four straight and eight of its last nine while scoring at least five goals in each of their last four games and an identical four goals in each their previous four wins. The Lightning are the easy pick to hold it down in an absolute shootout.

Pick: Tampa Bay 6 Boston 5

NBA Expert Picks March 12-18

Washington Wizards (37-28) at Boston Celtics (46-20)
When: Wed. Mar 14, 2018 8:00 PM
Where: TD Garden, Boston, MA

Analysis: The Wizards snapped a three-game losing streak by beating Miami 117-113 on Tuesday night prior to their Friday night matchup against New Orleans. Bradley Beal scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Wiz to the win while Tomas Satoransky added 19 points and seven assists. Boston looked fantastic in their 117-109 road win over Minnesota on Thursday night as Kyrie Irving scored a team-high 23 points and dished out eight assists while veteran center Al Horford added 20 points and eight rebounds.

There’s only one team that plays any defense in this matchup and it sure ain’t Washington. The C’s rank second in points allowed and Washington isn’t nearly as explosive as they would be without John Wall in the lineup. Boston beat Washington in overtime 110-104 on Feb. 8 and I like the C’s to record a virtually identical win in this contest

Pick: Boston 110 Washington 104

Cleveland Cavaliers (38-26) at Portland Trail Blazers (39-26)
When: Thu. Mar 15, 2018 7:00 PM
Where: Moda Center, Portland, OR

Analysis: LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers won two straight heading into their Friday night matchup against the Clippers, but they also lost their two previous games. Cleveland won at home against Detroit on Monday night 112-90 and then got past Denver in a hard-fought battle 113-108 on Wednesday as James put up 39 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds to come up just shy of a triple-double. Cleveland did lose two straight prior to their modest winning streak.

Portland has won eight straight and nine of their last 10 including a 111-87 win over New York on Tuesday. For this Inter-Conference clash, I am betting on Rip City to get the big home win behind their all-star backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McColum. The Cavs aren’t exactly setting the league on fire and I just don’t see how they can really go all-out knowing that LeBron James is leaving this summer.

Pick: Blazers 107 Cavaliers 101

Houston Rockets at Minnesota Timberwolves
When: Sun. Mar 18, 2018 6:00 PM
Where: Target Center, Minneapolis, MN

Analysis: James Harden and the Houston Rockets are the hottest team in the league, having won 17 straight games while Minnesota has lost three straight including a 117-109 home loss to Boston on Thursday. The Timberwolves are struggling badly without Jimmy Butler while Houston has shooters everywhere and can pretty much do no wrong. Despite being on the road, Houston will win and win big!

Pick: Houston 121 Minnesota 108

2018 March Madness Bracket Busting R64 Betting Upset Picks

No. 9 Florida State (20-11) vs. No. 8 Missouri (20-12)
When: Friday, March 16 at 9:50 PM ET
Bridgestone Arena – Nashville, TN – Game
Spread: Missouri -1
Stream: CBS Sports

52 percent of public bettors already like No. 9 Florida State to upset No. 8 Missouri in the Round of 64 opener. Despite the fact that the Seminoles got smacked around by Louisville in the ACC Tournament Wednesday and have lost three of their last four games, Florida State is still the pick here for me. Missouri has lost four of six including their SEC tourney loss against Georgia on Thursday while getting held to 66 points or less in three of those four losses.

Mizzou has beaten Kentucky and Texas A&M over their last 10 games and they might have the top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft on their roster in Michael Porter Jr., but Florida State is seriously battle-tested playing in the powerful ACC and they’ve done well in beating either current or formerly nationally-ranked teams like North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Louisville while putting up great efforts against No. 1 Virginia (59-55) and Duke (100-93). The Seminoles are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games while Missouri is 1-5 ATS in their last six non-conference games.

March Madness 64 Betting Upset Pick: Florida State +1

No. 10 Providence (21-13) vs. No. 7 Texas A&M (20-12)
When: Friday, March 16 at 12:15 PM ET
Where: Spectrum Arena – Charlotte, NC
Spread: Texas A&M -3.5
Stream: CBS Sports

Texas A&M might be 3.5-point favorites, but there’s a reason why 67 percent of public bettors are already backing the Providence Friars to cover the chalk – and it’s because they’re the far more battle-tested team in this matchup. Texas A&M has lost four of seven coming into the NCAA Tournament while Providence won three of their final four games and suffered their only loss by falling against No. 1 seed Villanova in the BIG east championship game after taking the Wildcats to overtime. While Texas A&M has beaten the likes of Kentucky and Auburn over their last 10 games,

Providence has beaten National No. 3 Xavier while also beating No. 4 Villanova on Valentine’s Day! Texas A&M is the better statistical team at both ends of the floor, but when you can beat Villanova once and take the Wildcats to OT in the next meeting, you can literally beat anyone! The Friars are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning straight up record, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games. The Aggies 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall, 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games following a straight-up loss and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 NCAA Tournament games. I smell an upset brewing!

March Madness 64 Betting Upset Pick: Providence +3.5

No. 9 NC State (21-11) vs. No. 8 Seton Hall (21-11)
When: Thursday, March 15 at 4:30 PM ET
Where: Intrust Bank Arena – Wichita, KS
Spread: Seton Hall -2
Stream: CBS Sports

While 59 percent of public bettors are already backing Seton Hall to win and cover the chalk in this contest, I like NC State to pull off the outright upset in this round of 64 opener. The Pirates have gone 4-2 over their last six games, but are just 4-6 over their last 10 games and suffered four straight losses from Feb. 4 to Feb. 14. Despite dropping two of their last three, NC State has gone 6-4 over their last 10 games and beat, both Louisville and Florida State along the way. The Wolfpack beat Duke by 11 points at home in January, once, nationally-ranked Clemson, Top 20-ranked North Carolina and Florida State.

Seton Hall beat Louisville, Creighton and Butler earlier this season, but again, they really struggled down the stretch while losing to Xavier twice, Villanova twice and Butler in the Big East Tournament. The Pirates might be favored in this contest, but they’re also just 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an SU loss, and 0-4 ATS in their last four tournament games. NC State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning straight up record, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games. I’m feeling NC State for the outright win!

March Madness 64 Betting Upset Pick: NC State +2
