2018 March Madness Picks To Win The West

2018 March Madness Picks To Win The West

Who will come out of the wild wild west to make to the 2018 March Madness Final Four? I have three picks that you should look at making before tip-off. Happy hunting!

2018 March Madness Picks To Win The West

The March Madness Favorite To Win The West: #1 Xavier

Xavier is an excellent basketball team. What I like about the Musketeers is that they went 21 and 12 against the spread this season. Xavier only lost 5 games on the season. 2 of the 5 losses were to the rival Villanova Wildcats. Another loss was 72 to 75 in overtime to Providence in the Big East Tournament.

Xavier also lost to Providence on Jan. 6. The Musketeers mustn’t play Providence or Villanova in the West Region. That’s a big reason to believe Xavier takes it. A reason to not believe Xavier takes it is that they played a relatively easy non-conference schedule. Save for a win over Cincinnati in early December, the Musketeers beat Arizona State, Baylor, Wisconsin and Colorado.

The March Madness Smart Pick To Win The West: #3 Michigan

The Michigan Wolverines might be the hottest team in the nation. Michigan won it’s final 9 games. They also went 8 and 1 against the spread in those 9 games.

They drilled Ohio State 74 to 62 on Feb. 18. They beat Michigan State 75 to 64 on March 3. They beat Purdue 75 to 66 on March 4. The Wolverines won their third straight Big Ten Basketball Tournament.

Michigan’s defense and offense are playing better now than it has all season long. The Wolverines should be taken seriously as a team that could take down mighty Xavier for the West Region.

The March Madness West Longshot Pick: #11 San Diego State

The San Diego State Aztecs are another hot team that will try to win the West Region. The Aztecs have been as hot as possible in the Mountain West Conference. San Diego State, like Michigan, has gone 9 and 0 straight up in their last 9. They’ve also gone 8 and 1 against the spread in those 9 games.

SDSU’s Round 1 game is versus AP-ranked Houston. Houston, who lost to Wichita State in the AAC Tournament Championship, is a -4 favorite. So far, 50% feel this game can go either way. I think San Diego State can win the West Region.

2018 March Madness South Region Picks

2018 March Madness South Region Picks

Virginia is the favorite to win the South Region. Virginia, who won both the ACC Basketball Tournament as well as the ACC Regular Season, is the overall #1 ranked team in the NCAA Tournament. Can anyone bump Virginia from a trip to the Final Four?

2018 March Madness South Region Picks

March Madness South Region Favorite: #1 Virginia

The Cavaliers have the very best defense in all of college basketball. Opponents average less than 54 points per game versus the Virginia Cavaliers. The Cavaliers deserve the #1 seed. But, the Selection Committee has sort of hung Virginia out to dry.

The Cavaliers must face either Arizona or Kentucky in the Sweet 16. Neither team is a walk in the park. Even Creighton or Kansas State in Round 2 won’t be easy to get past. Arizona, Kentucky, Creighton, and Kansas State are on Virginia’s side of the bracket. If they get past those teams, they’re likely to face the second best defensive team in the nation after them, the Cincinnati Bearcats.

March Madness South Region Smart Pick: #4 Arizona

The Arizona Wildcats have a surging team. Arizona has gotten better in late February and March. They dominated opponents in the Pac 12 Basketball Tournament. Sure, UCLA did enough to force overtime. In overtime, Arizona outscored the Bruins 11 to 0.

You must stop DeAndre Ayton to have any shot of beating the Arizona Wildcats. No team has anyone who can stop Ayton. Most teams can’t even contain him. If you stop Ayton, you must then deal with Dusan Rustic, Allonzo Trier, and Rawle Alkins.

March Madness South Region Longshot Pick: #11 Loyola-Chicago

11-seed Loyola-Chicago should have no shot to win the South Region, right? Here me out. First, Loyola-Chicago battles the Miami Hurricanes. How much respect have the oddsmakers given to Loyola-Chicago? Miami is favored by 2.5 points over the Ramblers.

Loyola-Chicago also shoots 50.3% from the field. That ranks third in college basketball. They shoot close to 40% from three. The Ramblers allow 62.2 points per game. That ranks fifth in college hoops.

Don’t sleep on the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers.

2018 March Madness Picks To Win The Midwest Region

2018 March Madness Picks To Win The Midwest Region

Kansas is the top-seed in the Midwest Region. However, the Jayhawks aren’t favored to win the Midwest Region. Duke, the #2-seed are the favorites. Is Duke the play? Keep reading to find out Duke’s chances of winning the Midwest. Also, check out my smart plays and longshot plays to take the Midwest Region.

2018 March Madness Picks To Win The Midwest Region

March Madness Midwest Region Favorites: #2 Duke, #3 Michigan State

Not only is Duke favored to win the Midwest Region over Kansas, Michigan State is also favored to win the Midwest Region over Kansas. I’m not a fan of either. If I had to bet on either team, it would be the Michigan State Spartans.

But, we mustn’t forget that the last time Michigan State was supposed to be tough to beat, they lost to Middle Tennessee State. The Spartans were a #2 seed. Middle Tennessee State was a #15 seed. Think about that for a moment. Oh, it was in 2016. That wasn’t too long ago. Last season, MSU lost in Round 2 to Kansas.

What’s wrong with Duke? Nothing, really, except they might be the most immature team in the entire NCAA Tournament. When Grayson Allen is supposed to be the guy to rally the troops, you’ve got some issues. You never know which Duke team will show up. They’re also a tough bet.

March Madness Midwest Region Smart Pick: #1 Kansas

What’s wrong with Kansas? Nothing. The thing about Kansas is that until they face Duke or Michigan State, they’ve got a relatively easy road to the Elite Eight. #4 Auburn is a mess. #5 Clemson is just okay. If Kansas can get past Seton Hall or NC State in Round 2, they could go relatively unscathed into the Elite Eight.

Once they do that, they’ll only have to beat Duke, Michigan State, or a big longshot if those two squads, like I predict, fail early. That’s a good reason to put dollars on Kansas to win what appears to be the toughest region.

March Madness Midwest Region Longshot Pick: #7 Rhode Island

If Rhode Island gets past Oklahoma, they’ll have a huge shot to upset Duke in Round 2. Rhode Island is a Top 20 ranked squad that averages 76 points per game. On defense, they allow an average of 68 points per. Rhode Island almost certainly will go under the radar after losing The Atlantic 10 Championship to Davidson. That’s a good thing. Again, if they get past Oklahoma, they can beat Duke in Round 2. From there…who knows?
