MLB Expert Picks July 30 – Aug 5

The 2018 NFL preseason kicks off this week, but if you want action on games with consequences then use my MLB expert betting picks for the week of July 30th to August 5th, 2018.

MLB Expert Picks July 30 – Aug 5

Houston Astros at L.A. Dodgers
When:  Friday, Aug. 3 at 10:00 pm ET
Where: Dodgers Stadium, Los Angeles, CA

Analysis: Friday’s battle between the Houston Astros and L.A. Dodgers could be a preview of this fall’s World Series. What makes the game even more interesting is that star pitcher Justin Verlander takes the mound for the Astros.

Verlander’s faced Dodger batters 99 times. The Dodgers hit .263 against Justin. That’s not bad. It’s definitely better than what most teams hit versus the awesome Verlander.

The Dodgers list Alex Wood as their Friday starter. The Dodgers have responded when Wood has taken the mound. LAD is 7 and 3 straight up in Wood’s last 10 starts. Houston’s only faced Wood 17 times. That might give him an edge in this.

Pick: L.A. Dodgers

New York Yankees at Boston
When:  Saturday, Aug. 4 at 4:05 pm ET
Where: Fenway Park, Boston, MA

Analysis: Recently acquired pitcher J.A. Happ is scheduled to throw for the New York Yankees against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. Happ’s had a good season.

His ERA is a decent 4.05. His WHIP is a good 1.15. Happ’s record of 11 and 6 means that he was Toronto’s top starter. The fact that Happ recorded that winning record with the Blue Jays means that he should be even more effective with the Yankees.

The Yankees will give Happ enough run support because they face Nathan Eovaldi. The Yankees should beat Boston by at least 2 runs.

Pick: New York Yankees

San Francisco at Arizona
When: Sunday, August 5 at 4:00 pm ET
Where: Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ

Analysis: Because competition to win the NL West is stiff every game is a must win for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The D’Backs hope that flame thrower Robbie Ray gets back on track against the rival San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Ray hasn’t been great this season. To be fair, the D’Backs haven’t backed up Robbie the way that they could. Arizona is a bad 1 and 4 in Ray’s last 5 starts.

The Giants aren’t a great team. But, with Ray struggling, and the D’Backs failing to give him much run support, San Francisco should win this Sunday afternoon matchup.

Pick: San Francisco

NFL Preseason Week 2 Over/Under Predictions

NFL Hall of Fame Game 2018 Odds, Date: Chicago V Baltimore Picks

Let’s take a closer look at the NFL betting odds and my betting picks for the 2018 Hall of Fame game.

The 2018 NFL preseason kicks off Aug. 2nd with the Chicago Bears facing the Baltimore Ravens. Kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. This marks Baltimore’s first appearance in the Hall of Fame Game. The Bears are 4-0 all-time in HOF games.

NFL Hall of Fame Game 2018 Odds, Date: Chicago vs. Baltimore picks

The NFL sports betting board lists the Ravens as 1.5-point favorites to beat the Bears. The game total is 33-points.

Why Pick Chicago To Win?

How much of sophomore QB Mitch Trubisky’s new weapons will be showcased in the Hall of Fame Game?

I’m not expecting new Bears coach Matt Nagy to open up past the first chapter in Chicago’s playbook. The upgraded O-line will be on the field. But will we see newcomers tight end Trey Burton, wideouts Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and second-rounder Anthony Collins?

Why Pick Baltimore To Win?

Bears coach John Harbaugh has gone 4-0 in three of last four NFL preseasons. I expect the Ravens to play to win in this game.

But here is why you should watch the game. This will be the debut of first-round pick Lamar Jackson who has wowed teammates and the coaching staff during training camp.

NFL Hall of Fame Game 2018 Chicago vs. Baltimore Picks

The Chicago Bears are the second most improved team in the league following the Browns exciting offseason. I don’t see that being enough to beat the Ravens in this game. The under on the game total of 33 is also a smart NFL bet.

College Playoff Title Odds & Picks

College Playoff Title Odds & Picks

The 2018 College Football season kicks-off in a matter of weeks making today the right time to get your College Playoff Title future bet in. Keep reading for the complete odds and the NCAA football playoff title picks you need to keep your eye on.

College Playoff Title Odds & Picks

  • Alabama +178
  • Clemson +525
  • Ohio State +750
  • Georgia +875
  • Oklahoma +2000
  • Michigan +2000
  • Washington +2000
  • Penn State +2500
  • Wisconsin +2700
  • Auburn +3000

College Playoff Title Betting Favorite: Alabama +178

Alabama is a deserving less than +200 favorite to win the 2019 College Football National Championship. The reason? College football programs like Bama don’t take a season off. Alabama could rock it in the SEC and go into the CFP undefeated.

But, that doesn’t mean they’re a lock for the National Championship.  Bama must not only replace players along their defensive line, they virtually got a brand new secondary. If the D-line can’t put pressure on the QB, the secondary will flounder.

I must pass at the low odds.

College Playoff Title Smart Pick: Washington +2000

Washington returns most of its starters on both sides of the football. QB Jake Browning has already started 39 games in college football. He’s a senior this season. That means, coach Chris Petersen has an experienced quarterback playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the nation.

Offensive line experience is one of the better indicators as to how a college football team will play. It doesn’t get better than Washington’s O-line where both Trey Adams and Kaleb McGary are Round 1 NFL talent. McGary is an unreal 6’ 7”, 318 lbs. Adams is a more unreal 6’ 8” and 348 lbs. McGary plays on the right. Adams plays on the left.

On defense, the line should be great. The secondary is solid with experience across the board while the linebacking corps, although lacking a standout player, has experience as well. Washington should offer no better than +1000 odds to win the National Championship this season.

College Playoff Title Longshot Pick: Miami-Florida +4500

Miami-Florida plays in the Coastal Division in the ACC. Clemson, Louisville, and Florida State play in the Atlantic Division. That means, Miami must only beat Virginia Tech to make it into the ACC Championship.

From there, who knows? The Canes are at LSU, take on a rebuilding Florida State, and are at Virginia Tech this season. There’s a solid chance that if coach Mark Richt can get the offensive line to play to its potential as well as find a QB that can lead his explosive offense, Miami might go undefeated during the regular season.
