Five-Star ATS Picks College Football Week 1
Tennessee vs #17 West Virginia
When: Saturday, Sep. 1 at 3:30 pm ET
Where: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC
Spread: West Virginia -10
Analysis: Tennessee should challenge some of the better SEC squads later on this season. The Vols aren’t without a shot versus teams like Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. But, it’s asking a lot for Tennessee to hang with West Virginia in Week 1 because Tennessee hasn’t yet gelled as a team.
West Virginia only averaged 34 points per game last season. This season, they could average over 40 per game. If everything works out, the Mountaineers might average close to 50 points per game.
West Virginia’s defense isn’t good. Tennessee’s offense won’t keep up, though.
Week 1 ATS Pick: West Virginia
#22 Boise State at Troy
When: Saturday, Sep. 1 at 6:00 pm ET
Where: Veterans Memorial Stadium, Troy, AL
TV: ESPN News
Spread: Boise State -10 ½
Analysis: Troy returns enough players to win the Sun Belt Conference again. The Trojans have a great offensive line. Their skill positions are set. Plus, their head coach decided to turn down lucrative offers to stay at Troy.
However, Troy faces a team that could go undefeated in 2018 on Sep. 1. The Boise State Broncos return 9 starters on defense, 3 starters along the offensive line, and quarterback Brett Rypien.
Although Troy played Boise State tough last season, bettors shouldn’t expect the same thing to happen this season. The Broncos will win and cover the spread.
Week 1 ATS Pick: Boise State
Louisville vs #1 Alabama
When: Saturday, Sep. 1 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Camping World Stadium, Orlando, FL
Spread: Alabama -25
Analysis: Alabama starts the repeat effort versus Louisville in Orlando, Florida on Saturday. The Crimson Tide might be the best team in college football. Alabama returns a dynamite offense.
The Crimson Tide should have no trouble averaging 30 points or more per game this season. Bama’s defense should be one of the best units in the nation, particularly versus the rush. Although Louisville has some talent, it doesn’t have nearly enough.
Alabama will crush the Louisville Cardinals on Sep. 1.
