Why bet on the Chiefs to beat the Patriots
If you think the Chiefs’ 5-0 start is a fluke or just luck then you haven’t been paying attention. The Chiefs have road wins over preseason AFC crown hopefuls Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Charges plus the hard to beat at home Denver Broncos. Last week the Chiefs outgunned the top defensive team in the league, the Jags, by a 30-14 score. KC has won five straight and covered the betting spread in nine consecutive games.
Sophomore QB Patrick Mahomes leads the NFL’s fifth-ranked offense and second-best scoring unit. The Chiefs’ offense is peppered with the league’s top young talent including wide receivers Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, and Chris Conley, tight end Travis Kelce and running back Kareem Hunt.
Plus in his five years in KC, Reid has won two out of three matchups against Belichick and the Patriots including the 2017 season opener where the Chiefs walloped the Pats 42-27.
Why bet on the Patriots to beat the Chiefs
Bill Belichick is out for payback after losing to the Chiefs in the opener last year. To do so, he will have to slow down the Chiefs’ explosive offensive unit with the strong-armed Mahomes, whose 14 touchdown passes rank first in the league.
It would be a daunting task for any other coach, but Belichick has a long list of top opposing players he has neutralized. He will have a plan to slow down Mahomes. But will his 16th-ranked total defense (19th vs. the pass and 12th vs. the run) be able to execute?
If the Pats defense can’t slow down Showtime Mahomes, then it will be up to Tom Brady to win the game. He has a full complement of weapons that include Gronk, Edelman, and Josh Gordon. Brady has 12 touchdown passes with six interceptions for the Patriots, who rank tied for ninth in scoring at 26.6 points per contest.
Chiefs vs. Patriots NFL Pick
Chiefs defense isn’t playing well despite last week’s victory of a Fournette-less Jaguars. Moreover, Justin Houston is missing practice and might not play. Belichick and the Patriots had a long week to prepare after beating the Dolphins at home on a Week 5 Thursday Night Football game.
Bet the Pats -3 at home.
