Why Bet On The Browns Over The Texans
The Cleveland Browns are coming off their first road win in three seasons. With rookie QB Baker Mayfield starting, the Browns are now 3-5 straight-up and 4-4 against the spread this season. Cleveland had won just once over the previous TWO seasons. Head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley were fired on Oct. 29th. That was followed by a loss to the juggernaut Chiefs in interim head coach Gregg Williams’ debut. Then something clicked, and the Browns rolled to double-digit wins over Atlanta (28-16) and Cincinnati (35-20).
The Texans will be Mayfield’s biggest test to date. JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney are the leagues most dangerous pass rush. The Texans defense has racked up 11 sacks in the last two games.
Good news for Mayfield is that the Browns’ offensive line has not allowed a sack in the past two games. He has seven TDs and zero INTs in those games. Plus fellow rookie Nick Chubb, who has taken over the Browns’ backfield, has rushed for 260 yards and four scores.
At 4-6-1 overall the Browns are last in the AFC North but trail the Ravens by just a game and a half for the second AFC wild-card ticket.
Why Bet On The Texans Over The Browns
Can the Texans win their 9th game in a row after a Monday night game? If sophomore QB Deshaun Watson keeps playing like he has since he took over under center for the Texans then its Super Bowl or bust. Houston is 11-6 straight up and 10-7 against the spread with Watson starting.
Houston opened the season with three straight losses. That was what Watson needed to get his legs under him after a season-ending knee injury a year ago. The Texans have now won eight straight, the first team to do so after a 0-3 start.
The Texans are tied with the Pats for the third AFC playoff spot. New England owns the head-to-head tiebreaker.
