College Basketball ATS Analysis New Year’s Week

College football may be winding down, but college football is gearing up. Don’t worry if you haven’t kept pace with all of the happenings in the NCAAB, I have a trio of must bet New Year games.

College Basketball ATS Analysis New Year’s Week

Notre Dame at #10 Virginia Tech
When: Tuesday, Jan. 1 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Cassell Coliseum, Blacksburg, VA
TV: ESPNU

Analysis: Two of the better teams in the ridiculous ACC clash on Jan. 1, 2019 when Notre Dame heads to Blacksburg to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Fighting Irish are on a 4-game winning streak after 2 straight losses.

Against the spread, Notre Dame is 6-7. They’re a bad 4-6 ATS at home while they’ve gone 1-0 against the spread in their lone road game that offered odds when losing 62-65 to UCLA as a +4.5 dog.

Virginia Tech is 11-1 straight up and a dominating 8-3 against the spread. The Hokies are a fantastic 4-2 ATS at home. No matter the odds, VA Tech should cover. They’re for real, holding opponents to 56.6 points per.

#13 Texas Tech at West Virginia
When: Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: WVU Coliseum, Morgantown, WV
TV: ESPN U

Analysis: Texas Tech takes on Bob Huggins’ West Virginia Mountaineers squad in Morgantown on Jan. 2. The Red Raiders have lost only a single game, 58-69 to the Duke Blue Devils. But, Texas Tech’s been terrible against the spread.

They’re 5-7 overall. They head to West Virginia on a 2-game ATS losing streak. That looks bad, but the Mountaineers not only already have 4 straight up losses on the season, they’ve gone 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4.

West Virginia’s got a 2-3-1 ATS record at home. They’ll be favored here. Because the Mountaineers should have trouble dealing with the Red Raiders suffocating defense, Texas Tech’s the team to back.

#7 Michigan State at #11 Ohio State
When: Saturday, Jan. 5 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Value City Arena, Columbus, OH
TV: FOX

Analysis: Michigan State’s 11-1 while Ohio State is 12-1 heading into their Big Ten throw down on Saturday, Jan. 5. The Spartans are on a 6-game winning streak. They’ve gone 9-4 ATS this season.

MSU’s also gone 8-2 ATS in their last 10. They’re hot in every way imaginable while Ohio State is only 7-6 ATS overall and 3-6 against the spread in home games this season. Back Michigan State because there’s no way they go off the favorites on Jan. 5.

NBA Picks New Year’s Week

Utah Jazz at Toronto Raptors
When: Tuesday, Jan. 1 at 7:30 pm ET
Where: Scotiabank Arena, Toronto, ON, CA
TV: NBA TV

Analysis: The Utah Jazz and Toronto Raptors ring in the New Year with what should be an entertaining battle. At 26-11, the Raptors are now only 2 games ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers and 3 games ahead of Boston in the deep Atlantic Division.

Toronto’s won a lot of games. They haven’t made profit for their backers, though, going 16-21 overall. In home games, the Raptors are only 7-10. They play a team on Tuesday night with a .500 18-18-1 ATS record.

Utah’s road record is a losing one, 9-11-1, but the Raptors figure to be over valued again. The Jazz are the play.

Pick: Utah Jazz

Houston Rockets at Golden State Warriors
When: Thursday, Jan. 3 at 10:30 pm ET
Where: Oracle Arena, Oakland, CA
TV: TNT

Analysis: The Golden State Warriors take on the rival Houston Rockets in a strange position. They’re only 2 games ahead of the Clippers, and 3 games ahead of the Lakers and surprising Sacramento Kings in the Pacific Division. The Warriors have gone 15-22 against the spread overall.

Traditionally, Golden State’s over bet at home. This season’s no different so far with the Warriors facing massive spreads at Oracle Arena. Golden State’s only 8-12 ATS at home heading into their Dec. 31 game against the Phoenix Suns.

Houston’s got a 7-11 road record against the spread. Although that’s not great, the Rockets dominated the Warriors in the last meeting 107-86. Because Houston should be awarded way more points in this battle than they should, they’re the pick.

Pick: Houston Rockets

Dallas Mavericks at Boston Celtics
When: Friday, Jan. 4 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: TD Garden, Boston, MA
TV: ESPN

Analysis: Likely NBA Rookie of the Year Luca Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks head to the Garden to battle the Boston Celtics on the first NBA Friday of 2019. Doncic averages 19 points, 5 assists, and 6.6 boards.

He’s the reason the Mavericks are not only 22-12 straight up, but also 21-13 against the spread. Dallas is 13-4 ATS at home. They have a decent record against the spread on the road, though, going 8-9 this season.

Boston’s 10-6 ATS at home. Because of the hype surrounding Docic, the Celtics could face a much smaller spread here than they normally would. Boston should cover in their second game at the TD Garden after a 3 game road trip.

Pick: Boston Celtics

NHL Picks New Year’s Week

Boston Bruins at Chicago Blackhawks
When: Tuesday, Jan. 1 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: United Center, Chicago, IL
TV: NBC

Analysis: Tampa Bay appears to be running away with the Atlantic Division. Heading into the New Year, the Lightning have a stunning 30-7-2 record. But, that doesn’t mean Boston’s totally out of it.

The Bruins are 21-14-4 before heading into 2019. Boston’s gone 4-2 in their last 6 and have an 8-9-4 record on the road. They should have the upper hand versus the 15-20-5 Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.

Chicago’s only .500 at home with an 8-8-3 record. The Blackhawks have been hot in their last 6, winning 5-of-6. 2 of the wins were at the United Center. Because the odds should be fair, Chicago gets the nod.

Pick: Chicago Blackhawks

San Jose Sharks at Colorado Avalanche
When: Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: Pepsi Center, Denver, CO
TV: NBCSN

Analysis: The San Jose Sharks face one of the surprise teams in the Western Conference on Wednesday, the Colorado Avalanche. Colorado remains in contention in the Central Division even though they’ve gone 2-8 in their last. 10. The Avalanche ride a 4-game losing streak into their Wednesday throw down with the Sharks.

San Jose’s got a nice 21-12-4 record. They’ve got a winning record on the road, going 9-8-2. Colorado will put up a fight, but the cracks have shown. The Avalanche won’t do enough to keep San Jose from winning this match on Jan. 2.

Back the Sharks, maybe even on the puck line if they show up to the Pepsi Center as the favorites.

Pick: San Jose Sharks

Chicago Blackhawks at Pittsburgh Penguins
When: Sunday, Jan. 6 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: PPG Paints Arena, Pittsburgh, PA
TV: NBCSN

Analysis: On Sunday, the Blackhawks travel to PPG Paints Arena to take on the Penguins. Chicago dominated Pittsburgh 6-3 when they faced them on December 12.

That was a road game, though. Pittsburgh has a nice 11-7-2 home record. Not only that, but heading into the first week of 2019, the Pens have been on a tear, winning 5 in a row and 7-of-8.

Penguins should win this match.

Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins
