NFL Spread Betting Outlook Week 5

NFL Spread Betting Outlook Week 5

The 2019 NFL season has been anything but predictable, except for the surging Patriots and whatever is going on with the Dolphins. NFL oddsmakers have released the opening betting spreads for Week 5 and here are the most intriguing matchups!

NFL Spread Betting Outlook Week 5

Buffalo Bills at Tennessee Titans -2

The Bills had the Patriots on the ropes as much as any team has had in a couple of seasons. Unfortunately, Josh Allen got hurt and Buffalo came up short in the 10-16 loss. Tennessee went into the ATL and dominated the Falcons 24-10. On paper, this looks like a defensive struggle. It might not be. If the Bills get Devin Singletary back, they’ll have a chance to move the football the way the Titans will.

There’s no guarantee that will happen. More importantly, it’s hard to see the Bills picking all the broken pieces up after the heartbreaking loss to NE. Titans make it 2 in row SU and ATS.

Chicago Bears -6 at Oakland Raiders

Man, the Oakland Raiders looked good in Week 4! As a 7-point dog, the Raiders jumped all over the home fave Indianapolis Colts in a rousing 31-24 win. Oakland faces a much more difficult task at home in Week 5.

The Bears beat Minnesota 16-6 even though quarterback Mitch Trubisky got hurt. Trubisky is listed as day-to-day. If he doesn’t play, backup Daniel Chase is more than capable of running the offense. Chicago covers.

New York Jets at Philadelphia Eagles -14

The Jets head into this game off a bye while the Eagles get some extra days of rest after they upset the Green Bay Packers this past Thursday night. Philadelphia is finally back on track after a couple of losses in their first 3 games to start the season. The Jets average 11 points per. That’s 31st in the NFL. Two touchdowns feels like a lot. It’s not in this matchup. Eagles roll.

New England Patriots -15 at Washington Redskins

Case Keenum was so awful against the New York Giants in Week 4 that Jay Gruden pulled him in favor of rookie Dwayne Haskins. The Ohio State product had a tough go of it when throwing 3 picks and only completing 10-of-17.

New England struggled against Buffalo. Still, they beat an undefeated team. On Sunday, they face one of the worst teams in the NFL. This should be a blowout of massive proportions. New England wins by at least 20.

Cleveland Browns at San Francisco 49ers -3

Before their bye, the 49ers had gone 3-0 and 2-1 against the spread. Cleveland might be without Jarvis Landry. Also, just because they managed to score 40 against the Ravens, it doesn’t mean they’ll do that versus a well-rested, 49ers’ defense. Go with SF to cover.

College Football ATS Betting Analysis Week 6

Utah State at LSU -25

LSU got Week 5 off. Although the Tigers are only 1-1 ATS at home, they’re 3-1 ATS overall. More importantly, LSU has gone 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games in October while Utah State is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 road games versus a team with a winning home record.

Oklahoma -35 at Kansas

I can see Jalen Hurts throwing for over 400 yards and 4 TDs to go along with 150 yards rushing and 2 rushing TDs versus Kansas. It depends on how much Lincoln Riley wants to run up the score here. Les Miles has already made great strides at Kansas, but Oklahoma is a CFP squad.

Purdue at Penn State -16 ½

Penn State must be taken seriously as a genuine challenger to Ohio State’s and Wisconsin’s Big Ten dominance. The 59-0 beat down of Maryland came on the heels of a hard-fought win against Pittsburgh. They should easily cover versus Purdue, a team they’ve gone 10-3-1 ATS against in the last 14 meetings.

Bowling Green at Notre Dame -44 ½

Notre Dame had their “bad” game against Virginia in Week 4 and they still covered. They’ll roll over Bowling Green on Saturday.

Kent State at Wisconsin -37

So, Northwestern played Wisconsin tough. Why does it matter? The Badgers had a reason to take a backward step after dominating Michigan in Week 4. Kent State has no chance of not losing by 50 points.

Virginia Tech at Miami -8 ½

On paper, VA Tech versus Miami looks like one of the more competitive matchups in Week 6. But, Miami has finally gotten it together with two straight victories while the Hokies enter this matchup after a 10-45 pasting against Duke.

Georgia -22 at Tennessee

The Vols’ stadium seats 102,455 rabid fans. Those fans are going to be crying in their beers after the first quarter when Georgia is up 28-0. The Dawgs dominate one of the worst teams in the SEC.

Michigan State at Ohio State -17 ½

Ohio State has covered 4 in a row. The Buckeyes are better this year than last year. The reason? Justin Fields is one of the top quarterbacks in the nation. Michigan State’s offense won’t catch up while the Ohio State Buckeyes score almost at will.

2019 World Series Betting Favorite: Houston Astros +200

Houston finished the regular season with the best record in baseball. What it means is that the Stros head into the postseason with home-field advantage. That makes Houston an even bigger favorite than the odds indicate. Why?

No team in MLB comes close to the Astros’ starting rotation. Justin Verlander is 21-6 with a 2.85 ERA and a .80 WHIP. Gerrit Cole is 19-5 with a 2.52 ERA and .89 WHIP. Zack Greinke has a 2.93 ERA, an 18-5 record, and a .98 WHIP. Greinke, Cole, and Verlander are all ace pitchers.

The scary part? When any one of those ace pitchers leaves the game, the Astros are in good hands with the top bullpen in MLB based on ERA. Not only that, but the Astros also rank first in team batting average.

All of it adds up to Houston being a super team. But although Stros backers should be giddy, the best team in the regular season doesn’t always take the Fall Classic. Check out two teams that could take down the mighty Astros for the championship.

2019 World Series Betting Smart Pick: Atlanta Braves +900

The Dodgers and Yankees are obvious choices. Both those teams have glaring flaws. For the Dodgers, the defect is in their closer, Kenley Jensen. The Yankees flaw is that outside of Luis Severino, they don’t have a starter that can hang with Houston’s rotation.

Because both the Yanks and Dodgers have issues that could lead to their downfall in the postseason, the smart pick is the Atlanta Braves. The ATL won the NL East this season behind a solid starting rotation led by Mike Soroka. Soroka has a sweet 2.60 ERA. The second ace in the rotation is former Astros pitcher Dallas Keuchel.

Keuchel’s ERA is 3.75 while Max Fried, third in the rotation, has a decent 4.02 ERA. The Braves bat .258 as a team, ranking ninth in the league. The bullpen has a 4.19 ERA. That ranks eleventh in MLB. If Atlanta’s starters can put their team into a good position to win, the BP should do the rest. The Braves have the best shot of the NL teams of upsetting the Astros and winning the World Series.

2019 World Series Betting Underdog Pick: Oakland Athletics +2000

If you’re looking for a longshot, look no further than the Oakland Athletics. Yes, the Athletics must win their wildcard game against the Tampa Bay Rays. If they can do that, they might have the best shot at upsetting the Houston Astros this postseason.

Oakland’s starters post the sixth-best ERA in MLB. The bullpen ranks seventh in ERA. Oakland bats .250 as a team. The A’s biggest asset? They’re familiar with Houston. If they win on Wednesday and face the Astros in the AL Divisional Playoffs, the A’s have as good of a shot as anyone of knocking off the favorites.
