World Series Betting Favorite: L.A. Dodgers +400

The Los Angeles Dodgers offer the lowest odds to win the 2020 World Series. The odds make sense when we consider Major League Baseball’s regular season format this year.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, teams will play a total of 60 games. The Dodgers should play teams in their region to cut down on travel. That means LAD gets to battle the Padres, Rockies, Diamondbacks, and Giants like usual.

None of those 4 teams are as talented as Los Angeles. The Dodgers also get to play the Rangers and Mariners, a couple of terrible AL West teams.

But L.A. must battle the Oakland Athletics, a very good AL West squad. The L.A. Angels should also be much improved.

That could put a dent in Los Angeles’ playoff chances. The real reason to consider not backing the Dodgers to win the World Series, though, has nothing to do with the truncated schedule.

The Dodgers lost the 2017 World Series to the Houston Astros. The Boston Red Sox sent them home World Series losers in 2018.

In both instances, Los Angeles’ bullpen failed to save their excellent starting rotation. Kenley Jansen remains the listed closer while the BP continues to feature Joe Kelly and Pedro Baez.

Blake Treinen is a decent pitcher, but he may not be enough. We’re looking elsewhere for this year’s World Series winner.

Smart World Series Pick: New York Yankees +425

We’re not looking far. The Yankees are the second choice on the board. At +425, New York may actually offer overlay odds. That’s how stacked they seem to be.

The New York Yankees knew they had to shore up their starting rotation. So, what did the best hitting team in baseball do? They signed ace Gerrit Cole away from the Houston Astros.

Last season, Cole went 20-5 with a 2.50 ERA and .89 WHIP. He can dominate in this shortened season because his best pitch is a fastball.

Fastball pitchers should have an edge in 60 games. It could take some time for batters to catch up with them. When it comes to the fastball, no pitcher in MLB has a better one than Cole.

James Paxton is a great number 2 while Masahiro Tanaka and J.A. Happ can get it going when they must.

Aroldis Chapman is one of the top closers in baseball. There aren’t any knocks against the batting lineup, either.

Take the +425. The Yankees should roll in a shortened season.

Long Shot World Series Pick: Oakland Athletics +2500

Oakland has a solid starting rotation. Sean Manea and Frankie Montas can both shut down opposing batting lineups. Mike Fiers is also a good starter.

The bats are better than many might believe. As a team, Oakland hit .249. Matt Olson, Marcus Semien, and Matt Chapman all hit more than 30 home runs.
