Why Bet On Keith Thurman (27-0)
The 28-year-old Thurman remained unbeaten in 28 fights by beating Shawn Porter via a unanimous 12-round decision in June to retain his WBA welterweight title in his sixth defense after winning the interim title in 2013. Thurman has recorded 22 of his career victories by way of knockout with five win coming by way of decision and one no contest outcome.
Why Bet On Danny Garcia (33-0)
The 28-year-old Garcia remained unbeaten by laying a seventh round TKO smackdown on the overmatched Samuel Vargas in November. Garcia has recorded 19 of his 33 career wins by way of knockout while recording 14 wins by way of decision.
Thurman Vs Garcia Pick
Keith Thurman only fought once last year but recorded a terrific and closer-than-expected win over Shawn Porter to solidify his standing as one of the best welters in the world.
"I know Danny is confident coming into this fight. He’s trying to challenge me and hurt me. I have an ‘0’ and I’m not ready to let it go. If you think you can beat me, beat me. It’s going down on March 4,” Thurman said recently.
Danny Garcia moved to welterweight in 2015 before winning the vacant WBC title against Robert Guerrero in January of last year. Garcia stopped Samuel Vargas in seven rounds with Thurman sitting ringside. The two champions quickly became involved in a shouting match in the middle of the ring.
“At the end of the day, I prepare myself to be 100 percent ready for anything Thurman does. I’m a true champion because I’m able to adapt to anything he can bring,” Garcia said.
Danny Garcia is the better defensive fighter and has a bit more speed, but Keith Thurman is the stronger puncher with more pure raw knockout power. However, Garcia has shown he can be vulnerable to body shots and Garcia has some of the best in the business.
However, I don’t see either naturally aggressive fighter opening themselves up to a knockout blow from the other, meaning this fight will come down to a decision. With Keith Thurman being the stronger puncher, I like him to win on style points via a split decision.
Thurman was really impressive against the gifted Shawn Porter in his last bout and I think the high level of competition will help him in this bout against Danny Garcia.
Pick: Keith Thurman via Split Decision
