2015 Odds To Win The Players Championship

Welcome to the Players Championship in golf betting this week. Otherwise known as the fifth-major, the Players Championship is the the crown jewel of the PGA tour and tees off every year in the Sunshine State. This is the 26th event of the wraparound season, as the PGA Tour heads to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida where a field of 144 will tackle the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, where the winner will receive $1.8 million.

Martin Kaymer won this event a year ago by one shot over Jim Furyk.

This week a Lindsey Vonn-less Tiger Woods continues his comeback close to home at the TPC Sawgrass. The 14-time major champion’s last tournament was the Masters in April, where he peaked as high as fifth heading into the final round before finishing 17th. He suffered a wicked wrist injury during Sunday action at Augusta but was able to finish the round and had nearly a month to fully recover.

“Obviously, it does affect me,” he explained about his recent split from Olympic skier Vonn. “It is tough, there’s no doubt. I’m not going to lie about that.”

He continued being more open than he is known for.

“And on top of that,” he continued, “this time of year is really, really hard on me. This three-day window is really hard. I haven’t slept. These three days, May 3rd and through the 5th, today, is just brutal on me, and then with obviously what happened on Sunday, it just adds to it.”

Who Will Win the 2015 Players Championship – Odds & Analysis

  • Jordan Spieth +600 – He’s slowed down some since the stunning Masters’ win, but the guess here is that he’s been practicing shots for this. The one to beat.
  • Rory McIlroy +600 – He followed up the fourth place finish at the Masters with a win at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Tournament. He’s hitting the ball as well as Spieth.
  • Henrik Stenson +1800 – Stenson’s form has gone south some with a nineteenth place finish in the Masters and a thirty-fourth place finish in the WGC-Accenture. Tough to back at the less than 20 to 1 odds.
  • Justin Rose +2000 – Second in the Masters, first in the Zurich Classic and seventeenth at the WGC-Accenture last week has Rose looking tough at the TPC this weekend.
  • Jason Day +2000 – Day’s top finish in his last 4 tournaments was a fourth in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The odds are way too low to back to win this.
  • Jim Furyk +2000 – Furyk’s been on fire lately. He finished fourth at the WGC-Accenture after winning the RBC Heritage. His swing is going good enough for him to win this.
  • Dustin Johnson +2500 – Like some others in here, DJ needs to turn his form around some in order to take home the trophy at Sawgrass. The forty-third at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans just wasn’t a very good showing.
  • Sergio Garcia +3000 – Sergio hasn’t been near a win in his last 5 tournaments. Could he turn it around at the TPC? It’s not likely.
  • Tiger Woods +3000 – Until Tiger proves that he’s close to the player that he used to be, and so far this year he hasn’t, he’s no better than a 50 to 1 shot in every tournament in which he’s entered.

  • Phil Mickelson +3000 – The second place finish at the Masters was impressive. Phil targets tournaments throughout the year. TPC-Sawgrass is one that he’s targeted. He’ll be tough this weekend.
  • Jimmy Walker +3000 – His game has fallen apart since the win at the Valero Texas Open in March. He’s good enough to turn it around, but it’s not likely.
  • Bubba Watson +3500 – Bubba didn’t hit the ball well at the Masters and his finish at the WGC-Accenture was a disappointment. Still, he’s one of the best golfers on the planet. Also, the odds make him an overlay.
  • Matt Kuchar +3500 – Kuchar’s been all over the place this year. His best finish in his past 5 tournaments was a fifth at the RBC Heritage. He’s tough to back to win this.
  • Adam Scott +3500 – A missed cut at the Valspar, a thirty-fifth at the Arnold Palmer, a thirty-eighth at the Masters and a fifty-second at the WGC-Accenture, make Scott an almost throw-out to win this weekend.
  • Lee Westwood +3500 – Westwood finally got the swing back over the weekend at the WGC-Accenture. He has a big shot this week at TPC-Sawgrass and deserves a long look at the odds.
  • Hedeki Matsuyama +3500 – The 23-year-old from Japan has been awesome in his last 2. He followed up the fifth place finish at the Masters with a ninth place finish at the WGC-Accenture. Matsuyama is yet another with a shot at Sawgrass.
