Welcome to Chambers Bay for the 2015 U.S. Open which tees of this Thursday from University Park in Washington likening this tournament to the upcoming British Open. The similarities between playing environments is uncanny.
Just spoke with Phil Mickelson about Chambers Bay. Said he doesn't consider it a U.S. Open venue. "Everything about it was a British Open."
— Jason Sobel (@JasonSobelESPN) June 3, 2015
The biggest concern for golfers this weekend will be that Chambers Bay is right on top of the water, similar to past British Opens, which means the wind could howl to a degree that the winning score at this thing could be 10 over.
Here’s a look (via drone) at what the very first hole will look like. It looks incredibly difficult.
With the 2015 U.S. Open quickly approaching, here is a look at the favorites, the top contenders, and the pretenders.

Who Are The Favorites To Win The 2015 U.S. Open?
Rory McIlroy 7-1
Jordan Spieth 8-1
Rory McIlroy is listed as the favorite at 7-1ad clearly, he’s going to have a chance just because of his immense talent level, but it is Jordan Spieth at 8-1 that may be the better pick to win the 2015 U.S. Open. Click here for more detailed analysis on Rory, Jordan or Tiger’s odds of winning the U.S. Open.
McIlroy has struggled on links courses in the past and although he won the U.S. Open in 2011, the Ireland native and four-time major winner has finished no better than 23rd over his last three U.S. Opens while missing the cut in 2012.
Spieth won the Valspar Championship in March before bringing home the bacon at the 2015 Masters. Spieth also tied for 17th at last year’s Open and thrives under the bright lights and huge pressure, something McIlroy surprisingly fails to do consistently.
Who Are The Legitimate Contenders To Win The 2015 U.S. Open?
Dustin Johnson 16-1
Phil Mickelson 18-1
Justin Rose 18-1
Rickie Fowler 18-1
Henrik Stenson 25-1
Adam Scott 28-1
Bubba Watson 28-1
Veteran lefty Phil Mickelson could contend, but he really has the look of a golfer on the downside of his career these days. Prior to the 2015 Masters where he finished tied for second with Justin Rose, Mickelson’s best finish this year was a tie for 17th.
I like Dustin Johnson to really challenge after recording two top-five finishes at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am (fourth) and Northern Trust Open (second) before going on to win the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral in Miami in March.
Justin Rose, the winner of the 2013 U.S. Open, also looks like a legitimate contender after finishing tied for second in the 2015 Masters.
Last but not least, I like Rickie Fowler to really challenge for his first major title after finishing fifth at the 2014 Masters and second in last year’s U.S. and British Opens, not to mention an impressive third at the PGA Championships.
Who Are The Other Possible Contenders To Win The U.S. Open?
Hideki Matsuyama: 33-1
Jason Day 33-1
Sergio Garcia 33-1
Jimmy Walker: 33-1
Jim Furyk: 33-1
Martin Kaymer: 40-1
Matt Kuchar: 40-1
Patrick Reed: 40-1
I like Jimmy Walker and Jason Day to contend out of this grouping and I suspect that veteran Jim Furyk is about due for another fine outing.
Who Are The Longshots To Win The U.S. Open?
Billy Horschel: 50-1
Brandt Snedeker: 50-1
Brooks Koepka: 50-1
Tiger Woods: 50-1
Go ahead and laugh if you want, but I still say that Tiger Woods is never out of any tournament he enters.
What Are Some Props For The U.S. Open?
Will Tiger Woods make the cut?
- Yes: +110
- No: -140
If you like fun-filled props odds wagers, here’s a good one. Simply wager on whether or not Woods will make the cut. I’m going with the unequivocal ‘yes’ here.
U.S. Open Winners Nationality
- USA: -175
- European: +200
- Rest of world: +650
I’m going with the U.S. here with Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler being my two top favorites to win the 2015 U.S. Open.
Will there be a playoff?
- Yes: +300
- No: -450
With only two playoffs since 1995 (Tiger Woods in 2008 and Retief Goosen in 2001), the odds are that a playoff won’t take place in 2015.
