USA vs Europe 2014 Odds to Win Ryder CupNoah Williams
The 2014 Ryder Cup, the biennial golf tournament between the best in Europe and the best in the USA, takes place this weekend. Europe is the favorite at -210 while the USA is a +165 underdog.
One of the names missing from the USA’s roster of players is Tiger Woods. Woods has back issues; it makes sense that U.S. captain Tom Watson wouldn’t put him on the team. Not having Woods might actually be a blessing since the former greatest player in the world wasn’t very good on the course when he was healthy this year.
Europe will be led by the fantastic Rory McIlroy. McIlroy has come into his own in 2014, dominating in almost every golf tournament in which he’s played, and proving, without a doubt, that he is now the best player in the world.
Who will win in the bi-anual match between the best golfers in Europe and the best golfers in the United States?

Analysis: The U.S. hasn’t won the Ryder Cup on European soil since 1993. History is not on their side this weekend and most golf betting handicappers know it. That’s why the USA is a +165 underdog to hoist the trophy on Sept. 28.

Can the USA get past the trend? Not likely. The problem is that the USA just doesn’t match up very well with their European stars. Bubba Watson will lead the USA contingent in Scotland. He’s secured over 6930 points, but he’ll even tell you that he’s not close to being as good of a golfer as Rory McIlroy who will know the course in Scotland better than any other golfer in this tournament.
The USA’s second ranked player is Ricki Fowler. Fowler doesn’t match up well with Martin Kaymer or Henrik Stenson. The USA will also start three rookies, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed and Jimmy Walker. The pressure is going to palpable on the three newbies. Not only that, but, like almost everybody that Watson brings to Scotland, the Euros will have the advantage over the PGA Centenary Course due to its rough and rolling hills.
But, and this has to be noted, Jack Nicklaus designed the course. Therefore, even though it has many advantages to the Euro Ryder Cup team, it also will play like an American made course. That will help a lot of the USA players in their matches during this tournament. The USA faces a simple problem. In a sporting match, they are outmatched from man to man. Europe not only has the best overall player in Rory McIlroy, but it also has the best overall team led by Kaymer, Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood.
This is almost akin to the USA National Basketball Team taking on the Spanish National Team. The Spaniards can play with the USA for a half but when it comes down to it, the USA will end up winning by a comfortable margin.
If you are betting on the 2014 Ryder Cup then you shouldn’t over think this one. The European Ryder Cup Team is superior to the USA’s. The Euros will win the 2014 Ryder Cup.
Pick: European Ryder Cup Team -210
