2015 Preakness Stakes Trifecta PickNoah Williams
After winning the 2015 Kentucky Derby a day shy of two weeks ago, American Pharoah looks to the 2015 Preakness Stakes, hoping to take the second jewel of the famed yet elusive Triple Crown.
Is there a horse in the short eight-horse field that will challenge the 3-year colt who is the favorite to win the Preakness at 4/5?
A Closer Look At My 2015 Preakness Stakes Trifecta Pick
Event: 2015 Preakness Stakes
Date: May. 16, 2015
Start Time: 6:18 PM ET
Location: Pimlico Raceway, Baltimore, Maryland
TV Info: NBC
Stream: NBC Sports Live Extra
Key Horse: 7-Divining Rod, 12-1
This colt trained by Arnaud Delacour has been ultra-impressive in 5 lifetime starts. Divining Rod (pictured) hasn’t failed to hit the board in any of those 5 starts. He has 2 wins, a second, and 2 third place finishes in those 5 races. What’s great about Divining Rod is that his last race, the Lexington Stakes, was his best yet. He tracked behind the leaders before taking over in the stretch and running on for the win. Divining Rod should be in the perfect position to do the same thing on Saturday in the Preakness Stakes. If he doesn’t finish first, he’s got a great shot of finishing either second or third.
Others Horses to Use In Your 2015 Preakness Stakes Trifecta
1-American Pharoah, 4-5
Keeping the Derby winner out of the trifecta makes no sense. Unless you believe that American Pharoah just won’t run a step, the Preakness field is too small to leave out the chalk.

He’s likely to get the lead, which means that his chances of storming to a Top 3 finish in the Preakness are pretty good. Dortmund could win the Second Jewel of the Triple Crown, but his odds will be too low to use him as the key horse in the trifecta.
8-Firing Line, 4-1
The second place finisher in the Kentucky Derby might have room for improvement. Then again, he could be over the top after such a great run in the Derby. He’s a must use, though, because Gary Stevens is going to put him in the race from the outset.

4-Danzig Moon, 15-1
The second place finisher in the Bluegrass Stakes improved from that race to the Kentucky Derby. He actually made a really good move around the turn and looked to be gaining on the front-runners in the Derby before flattening out in the stretch. He’s got a shot to get into the tri.
5-Tale of Verve, 30-1
Although Tale of Verve is only a maiden winner, the son of Tale of Ekati should be going off at longer than 60 to 1 odds to win the Preakness Stakes. He’s a must use in the trifecta from my point-of-view just because of the odds.
