2016 Belmont Stakes Win, Place, Show PicksJosh Bailey
The past performances for this Saturday’s Belmont Stakes have been printed. I’ve studied them and, once again, I can’t help but go after the chalk. That’s not to say that Exaggerator has no shot to win the 2016 Belmont Stakes on June 11. In fact, I’m picking Exaggerator second. But I believe that one of his rivals from the Preakness Stakes turns the tables on Exaggerator in the Test of Champions.
A Closer Look At 2016 Belmont Stakes Win, Place, Show Picks

2016 Belmont Stakes Win Pick: 5-Stradivari 5/1
I was all gaga over the Todd Pletcher’s trainee’s chances in the Preakness. To me, it was a no-brainer after I saw his allowance win at Keeneland in April. The problem is that the pace of the Preakness was absolutely suicidal and although Stradivari wasn’t on top of the pace, he was close enough to where he just couldn’t sustain his bid in the stretch. On Saturday, the pace shold be much kinder. There aren’t a lot of speed horses in the Belmont. Stradivari figures to get the prefect trip close to Gettysburg. It should be enough for him to hold off Exaggerator in the stretch for the win.
2016 Belmont Stakes Place Pick: 11-Exaggerator 9/5
He’s the most talented horse in the race. My biggest concern is that the Belmont will not only be his 3rd race in 5 weeks, it will also be his 6th race of the year. If Exaggerator is on top of his game and not tired, he’ll have no problem winning the Belmont Stakes. I think he’ll be just tired enough, just enough, for Stradivari to hold him off the way that Nyquist did in the Kentucky Derby.
2016 Belmont Stakes Show Pick: 10-Lani 20/1
I like how Lani (pictured) ran in the Preakness Stakes. It takes a lot for a horse to bobble at the start and then do enough to finish fifth in a Triple Crown event. Lani has had trouble at the start in his last 3 races going back to his UAE Derby win in March. If his connections have taken the time to get him ready to come out better from the gate, who knows? He might win on Saturday. I’m picking him third.
