American Pharoah will be under a few dark clouds come this weekend when he vies for the 140th Preakness Stakes victory at Pimlico on Saturday. Scattered showers or storms are expect to dampen the festivities. The National Weather Service forecasts 40-50 percent chances of rain showers or storms, with highs expected in the upper 70s or lower 80s.
The three horses that dominated the Derby just over a week ago will all be back for the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore on Saturday. Though others will be in the gate, too, the big 3 are favored across the horse betting board to win the 2015 Preakness Stakes: American Pharoah, Firing Line and Dortmund.

A Closer Look At My Early 2015 Preakness Stakes Win-Place-Show Betting Picks
Bet To Win The 2015 Preakness Stakes: American Pharoah, 4/5
The Kentucky Derby winner has done nothing wrong since easily handling a top notch field on May 2. The beauty of the victory is that even though the final time was slow, 2:03.02, it wasn’t too slow to where you’d think this guy doesn’t have the goods to win the Triple Crown.

Sunday Silence won the 1989 Kentucky Derby in 2:05. Alysheba won the 1987 Kentucky Derby in 2:03.4 and Smarty Jones won the Kentucky Derby in 2004 in 2:04.06. All three of those horses were on the doorstep of greatness. American Pharoah should join them after this Saturday. He’s simply the best horse to win the Kentucky Derby since Big Brown in 2008.
Bet To Place In The 2015 Preakness Stakes: Dortmund, 9/2
Dortmund was over the top in the Kentucky Derby. He ran an awesome race in the Santa Anita Derby and just didn’t have that extra gear that he usually showed in the stretch at Churchill Downs. It doesn’t mean that he won’t be ready on Preakness Day.
Back at Churchill Downs, Bob Baffert likes what he sees in American Pharoah and Dortmund. This morning's report: http://t.co/Q5BTpwDyFb

Dortmund should find the going much easier this Saturday. Expect jockey Martin Garcia to track about a length off of Competitive Edge, the new shooter from Todd Pletcher’s barn, before trying to make a run around the turn and holding off Firing Line and American Pharoah. Firing Line could be tired after such a great effort on May 2. Dortmund figures to turn the tables on that rival. But, it’s doubtful that he can hold off the Derby winner.
Bet To Show In The 2015 Preakness Stakes: Carpe Diem, 12-1
There is a ton of speed in the Preakness. Jockey John Velazquez had Carpe Diem in the perfect spot to make a run for the win in the Kentucky Derby. The horse just didn’t respond. Expect Velazquez to take Carpe Diem off of the pace on Saturday because no less than 7 of the 12 likely entrants are going to be close to the pace.

American Pharoah will be in the garden spot while Carpe Diem will be around 5 to 6 lengths back. Velazquez will take his cues from Victor Espinoza aboard American Pharoah. If the Bluegrass Stakes winner has anything left, he could clunk up for third in this.
