The Odds-On Favorite To Win The 2017 Preakness Stakes: Always Dreaming Even
Always Dreaming was much the best in the slop at Churchill Downs on May 6. But, there are a few reasons to not like his chances at the Preakness. First, the final time was 2:03.59. That’s awfully slow considering that he ran the half in :46.53 near the lead. Second, many of his rivals had to close on a track that wasn’t favoring closers all day.
Always Dreaming recovers well after Kentucky Derby win, will head to Preakness in great shape. https://t.co/jMSYD5kj4y

I’m not saying Always Dreaming doesn’t in the Preakness. He definitely has a shot. I’m just saying that even money, I’m playing against him.
The Smart Pick TO Win The 2017 Preakness Stakes: Irish War Cry +550
While Always Dreaming got the dream trip in the Kentucky Derby, Irish War Cry had nothing but trouble. He got squeezed at the start, had to go wide around both turns, and couldn’t accelerate because of where he was on the racetrack.
Also, Irish War Cry is the type of horse that bounces back from a tough race. I think he bounces back big time in the Preakness Stakes. Fewer horses will be in the race. Hopefully, it won’t be raining. And, jockey Rajiv Maragh laid off Irish War Cry once he knew the horse had nothing left.
I’ve also got the feeling that Irish War Cry’s odds start to drift up this week.
The Dark Horse Pick To Win The 2017 Preakness Stakes: Practical Joke +1800
He looked like a winner in the middle of the stretch. For some reason, his momentum just stopped. What’s interesting is that off the rail, every horse’s momentum stopped. Think about how Lookin At Lee, who came up the rail, ended up as the one closest to Always Dreaming.
Every horse that made a move suddenly stopped once they got to the middle of the stretch. Also, make sure if you watch the race again to look at how John Velasquez on Always Dreaming took the horse off the to pass State of Honor. Then, he took him right back on the rail.
I think Practical Joke has a huge shot to win the Preakness Stakes.
