Early Kentucky Derby 2014 Picks

California Chrome is a +300 to win the 2014 Kentucky Derby

Leading the pack in early Kentucky Derby 2014 picks right now is California Chrome, who won the Santa Anita Derby in brilliant fashion against an extremely competitive field. Obviously his own camp is raving about him, and that’s probably because they have bought a championship horse years ago for just $10,000. Trainer Art Sherman has once again developed a stud and there is legitimate buzz around California Chrome. Consider yourself properly introduced favorite in early Kentucky Derby 2014 picks, whom you’ll be hearing tons about in the next week.

Can anyone beat California Chrome? Do I just like typing out “California Chrome”? You bet I do! It’s a FANTASTIC name for a horse! The odds opened at 7-to-4 for the hyped horse, and they’ll inevitably dance around as we approach the event next Saturday. If you believe California Chrome’s trainers, he’s unbeatable…and it’s hard to argue with the results so far. Chrome has raked in $1.135 million during his career and won three races in 2014 already. Not bad for a tiny investment of just ten-thousand bucks.

2. Wicked Strong is a +500 to win the 2014 Kentucky Derby

As you’d probably guess, Wicked Strong is from New England and will be running for the roses as the second favorite in early Kentucky Derby 2014 picks, and one of the biggest sentimental takes on the board.

Wicked Strong probably has the best name in the field. Up to $70,000 in winnings will be donated to the One Fund depending on how Wicked Strong fares at Churchill Downs. Like his namesake, the oddsmakers are giving Wicked Strong a wickedly strong chance of winning it all this weekend and it’s all very well deserved.

3. Hopportunity is a +1200 to win the 2014 Kentucky Derby

Hopportunity is getting substantial love for how he fared at the Santa Anita Derby, finishing second to California Chrome. The thing is that he was a very distant second place finisher. Still, there’s enough here to like and some people think that Hopportunity is the type of horse that will seek revenge. Personally I feel there are better ways to spread your money on the board, but Hopportunity just needs one…uh…opportunity to hop to the front of the line (sorry I couldn’t help myself).

4. Danza is a +1500 to win the 2014 Kentucky Derby

If you’re asking who the boss is at the Kentucky Derby, than Danza might have your answer for you. The long odds on this horse are due to his points on the season, but that should only benefit the opportunistic gambler. Danza dominated Arkansas Derby The fact that respected jockey Joe Bravo is mounting Danza has said enough for some gamblers. The other inside tip here: his trainers is Tom Pletcher, who also trained the legendary Super Saver in 2010. Danza is probably the best longshot on the board in early Kentucky Derby 2014 picks.

5. Big Bazinga is a +7500 to win the 2014 Kentucky Derby

I’m throwing a flier at Big Bazinga because I’m a big fan of the show his name comes from (the Big Bang Theory). Whatever – I’m a nerd! I’m allowed to have outside interests other than writing and gambling! And besides, if Big Bazinga wins, I get to scream “BAZINGA!” at the top of my lungs if my early Kentucky Derby 2014 pick comes through.
