Preakness Race Day Betting Predictions & How To Watch

Welcome to race day!!!

The 140th Preakness Stakes will begin at 6:18 p.m. ET on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

The second gem in horse racing’s coveted yet elusive Triple Crown will be broadcast on NBC, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Post time is set for 6:05 p.m. The winner earns $900,000 of the $1.5-million purse.

Kentucky Derby winner and Bob Baffert trained American Pharoah is the 2015 Preakness Stakes betting favorite to win the Preakness at 4-5 odds. Baffert also has the second favorite in the race, Dortmund, at 7-2. American Pharoah and Dortmund, though, have the unfavorable positions of the first two inside posts respectively in the eight-horse field leaving Firing Line running form the eigth position at 4-1.

The Preakenss Stakes is under 12 hours away and here are my latest race day betting predictions.

2015 Preakness Race Day Betting Predictions For Each Runner

Event: 2015 Preakness Stakes
Date: May. 16, 2015
Start Time: 6:18 PM ET
Location: Pimlico Raceway, Baltimore, Maryland
TV Info: NBC
Stream: NBC Sports Live Extra

1. American Pharoah

All indications are that the Derby winner is going to blow by the field at the top of the stretch. Jockey Victor Espinoza had better keep him closer to the pace this time than he did in the Derby for that to happen. He should win this.

2. Dortmund

He has a good shot of finishing third in this race unless Gary Stevens aboard Firing Line doesn’t press him from the outset. If Stevens lets him go, he’ll finish second.

3. Mr. Z

He’ll have to run with Dortmund early. It’s likely that Dortmund and Firing Line force this one into fade mode before they hit the top of the stretch. He should probably be sprinting instead of running in these route races. A seventh place finish is likely.

4. Danzig Moon

Although he ran great in the Kentucky Derby to finish fifth, that may have taken too much out of him. The prediction here is that he finishes sixth, only in front of Mr. Z and Bodhisattva.

5. Tale of Verve

He broke his maiden at 1 3/16 miles, the same distance of the Preakness Stakes. His connections probably aren’t hoping for a win. But, he’s definitely got the lungs and can jump up into a fourth place finish. That would be a lot of coin for a last out maiden winner.

6. Bodhisattva

Expect a last place finish for this guy. His style, running up front, won’t suit him well in here because Dortmund and Firing Line are so much faster than he is. Eighth place is what he figures to get.

7. Divining Rod

He could be good enough to put himself into the trifecta. Then again, he might be in no man’s land. He’s not fast enough to keep up with Dortmund, American Pharoah and Firing Line. He may get discouraged and get eked out for fourth by Tale of Verve. Divining Rod will finish fifth.

8. Firing Line

Expect a repeat of the Kentucky Derby. Victor has the more tactical horse in American Pharoah while Gary aboard Firing Line knows that he has to press Dortmund or that one will wire the field. So, Victor will lay about a length off of dueling front-runners Firing Line and Dortmund. Firing Line will put away Dortmund and American Pharoah will put away Firing Line. Firing Line will finish second again.
