Underdog Kentucky Derby Horse Itsaknockout Sponsored By Mayweather-Pacquiao Mega-Fight

The Floyd Mayweather Vs Manny Pacquaio mega-fight couldn’t happen on a better day this year. The biggest fights of the year often take place in the spring months because champions have become accustomed to fighting every 6 months to a year. Spring just seems to be the best season for big fights.

But this year’s biggest fight, heck, the biggest boxing match in the history of the sport, is interesting because earlier in the day at Churchill Downs they’re going to run the Kentucky Derby. One of the entrants in this year’s Kentucky Derby is named Itsaknockout, who is a 30/1 Kentucky Derby longshot. The name is so great that Itsaknockout’s owners, Jack Wolf and Chris Mara, were looking for ways to promote their horse. It so happens that the biggest fight in history falls on the same day as the Mayweather-Pacquiao brawl.

Itsaknockout (pictured) will be a galloping billboard for the mega-fight. Itsaknockout’s jockey, Luis Saez, is going to be wearing pants with Mayweather stitched on one leg and Pacquiao stitched on the other. The crossover promotion team is going to be wearing fight apparel as well.

But as great as the name is, does the horse truly have a shot at winning the Kentucky Derby? Since it is the Kentucky Derby and there’s going to be 20 horses in the race, Itsaknockout has a shot. What kind of shot? Let’s put it in boxing terms, Itsaknockout has a puncher’s shot if he runs the perfect race and Luis Saez doesn’t get the horse into any trouble. Puncher’s shot in horse racing terms in regards to the Derby means that about 10 horses have better shots to win the Kentucky Derby on May 2 than Itsaknockout.

It’s as if Floyd Mayweather Jr. wasn’t fighting Manny Pacquaio on May 2. It’s as if Floyd Mayweather Jr. was fighting Mikael Zewski, who is ranked tenth in the WBA’s rankings. Floyd owns the WBA Welterweight title. Pacquaio would be fighting Errol Spence Jr. for the WBO title on May 2. That’s how big of an underdog Itsaknockout is to win the Kentucky Derby.
