Major league baseball is finally winding down. The final regular season games take place this Sunday, meaning that it’s time for us to take a look at the 2014 MLB World Series and offer odds and free picks for both the National and American leagues.
Some surprises have occurred this MLB Season. Baltimore, a +18000 MLB odds underdog to win the World Series before the season started, appears to be the in the driver’s seats in the American League. Los Angeles, after a terrible start to the season, has dominated the AL West and looks to be Baltimore’s top competition. Click here for more MLB betting odds.
Over in the National League, the other Los Angeles team has played true to form. With a starting rotation that harks back to Koufax and Drysdale, the Dodgers are looking for its first World Series birth since 1988. Standing in their way is one of the newer franchises in MLB, the Washington Nationals.
Who will come out on top in both the American League and National League?
Let’s get to it!
2014 MLB World Series Odds and Picks
Top Pick: Baltimore Orioles +600
It’s tough to look past Baltimore because they are one of the few teams that are balanced enough on offense and defense in order to win a World Series. Baltimore is ranked third in slugging percentage at .423, seventh in runs scored at 686 and ninth in overall batting average at .258.

The pitching is very good. The starting rotation of Tillman, Chen, Norris, Guasman and Gonzalez, produce a 3.44 overall ERA. That ranks the rotation seventh in MLB. The middle relievers are talented enough and closer Zach Britton has a 1.70 ERA and .90 WHIP. The team is solid.
Runner-up Pick: Los Angeles Angels +450
The Angels bring arguably the top offense in Major League Baseball to the AL Playoffs. An on base percentage of .324, a slugging percentage of .409, an overall batting average of .261 and 763 runs on the season tells baseball betting handicappers that the Angels can definitely score runs.
The perspective shifts when it comes to the Angels’ pitching. Los Angeles pitchers have only produced 79 quality starts on the season. Although the overall ERA and WHIP are good, quality starts could be an issue because neither Weaver nor Wilson who are at the top of the rotation are true shut down guys.
Top Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers +500
The bats are definitely there. The Dodgers can score runs and the team knows how to get on base with a .331 on base percentage. The overall batting average is at .264 and you have to love how Puig, Adrian Gonzalez and Kemp are all hitting the ball well.

The starting rotation is as good as it gets with likely Cy Young winner and National League MVP Clayton Kershaw leading the way. Kershaw has a phenomenal 1.80 ERA and .86 WHIP. He’s 20 and 3 on the season. Zach Greinke isn’t bad either. He’s got a 2.74 ERA.
The middle relief could be a problem, but the thinking here is that Kershaw, Greinke, Haren and Ryu all pitch to at least the seventh inning. If that happens, the Dodgers should make their way to their first World Series since 1988.
Runner-up Pick: Washington Nationals +500
They’re balanced like Baltimore, but neither Strasburg nor Gio Gonzalez has proven to be a shutdown pitcher this season. Strasburg has actually lost 11 games, and burned a lot of betting money while doing it. Gio is coming around, but Doug Fister took a step back in the second half of the season.
Washington is great, yes, and they can score with the Dodgers, but the rotation just isn’t as strong as L.A.’s. That should be their down fall in the NLCS.
2014 World Series Betting Pick
Baltimore Orioles vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers can get away with having Kershaw and Greinke pitch into the seventh inning in the National League, but once they get to the World Series, the going gets much tougher. Even though Chris Davis has been terrible and might not even play during the MLB Postseason, Adam Jones and Nelson Cruz have been on fire.
Baltimore looks to be tops in the 2014 World Series. They’re the pick to win it all.
