Welcome to opening day in the 2015 Major League Baseball campaign.

A Closer Look At The 2015 MLB Opening Day Best Bets

Toronto at New York Yankees
When: Monday, April 6, 1 p.m.

If R.A. Dickey starts for Toronto, the Yankees could be in some trouble as an opening day home favorite. Toronto 1B Edwin Encarnacion and SS Jose Reyes have had great success versus the Yankees’ starter, Masahiro Tanaka, in limited at-bats.

Encarnacion is 4 out of 8 versus Tanaka. Reyes is 3 out of 6. The rest of the Blue Jays could step it up as well because even Yankees GM Brian Cashman isn’t sure if Tanaka’s elbow is 100% ready this season.

Boston Red Sox at Philadelphia Phillies
When: Monday, April 6, 3:05 p.m.

Boston has pegged Clay Buchholz as their opening day starter. Buchholz had a terrible 2014. Boston feels that he can return to his 2013 form where he produced a 1.74 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP.

Hamels is no joke. The 31-year-old had an awesome 2.46 ERA and 1.15 WHIP last season. But, he went 9 and 9 because his team has trouble producing runs. More importantly, Hamels has allowed Boston’s batters to hit .278 against him with 6 home runs in 144 total at-bats. It looks like Boston might be a decent dog to back on the road on April 6.

Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals
When: Monday, April 6, 4:10 p.m.

The goal is to always look for overlay wagers. This is true no matter if it’s opening day in MLB or the final regular season in MLB. Betting on Kansas City versus the Chicago White Sox should qualify as an overlay wager.

The age of 23-year-old Yordano Ventura begins in earnest on April 6 in Kansas City. Ventura will be counted on to be the Royals’ ace after James Shields left for San Diego. He’s definitely got the fastball. But being an ace is different than being a surprise in the playoffs.

As a team, the White Sox have hit .260 versus Ventura. Chicago counters with Jeff Samardzija, who got belted by the Royals in 34 at-bats last season. Samardzija gave up 12 hits. It’s KC’s game to lose.

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers
When: Monday, April 6, 4:10 p.m.

James Shields takes the mound for the Padres on Monday. Shields has allowed the Dodgers to bat .363 against him. This includes newly acquired Dodger Jimmy Rollins batting .444 against Big Game.

On the flip side, Clayton Kershaw has done well versus San Diego. He’s held the Padres to 1 home run in 141 at bats. As a team, the Padres hit only .262 versus Kershaw. The issue is going to be whether or not Kershaw can get the Dodgers into the later innings with a decent sized lead. Los Angeles still doesn’t have much of a bullpen while San Diego’s is very good.
