MLB Betting Analysis April 22-28

Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets
When: Wednesday, April 24 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: Citi Field, New York, NY
TV: ESPN

Analysis: The Phillies and Mets throw down yet again on Wednesday, April 24. Philadelphia and the Mets are atop the NL East Division standings. On Wednesday, the Phillies have scheduled Vince Velasquez as their starter.

It’s amazing how putting together a strong batting lineup can give starting pitchers confidence. So far this season, Velasquez has been terrific. His ERA is 2.55 while his WHIP is under 1.00 at .96. He hasn’t thrown against the Mets yet, but if he displays the same control he has so far this season, he shouldn’t have any trouble versus NYM.

The Mets counter Velasquez by starting Jason Vargas. The former Kanas City middle reliever has had an awful time this season. He just hasn’t been as sharp as he was in the first half of 2018. His ERA is a dreadful 9.58. Philly batters should run Vargas off the mound early. Philadelphia will then cruise to an easy win.

Pick: Philadelphia Phillies

Cleveland Indians at Houston Astros
When: Saturday, April 27 at 4:05 pm ET
Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX
TV: FS1

Analysis: A division leader clash takes place on Saturday when top AL Central team Cleveland battles top AL West team Houston at Minute Maid Park. The Tribe is battling Minnesota in the Central while the Stros are battling the Mariners in the West.

Houston pitcher Brad Peacock has thrown really well this season. He’s more of a utility type pitcher than an actual starter. He threw 6.2 innings in his first outing before throwing for 5 innings in his second. The Astros won both games. Then, he threw 3.1 innings on April 12 and 1 inning on April 17. Peacock should have a decent outing on April 27.

Cleveland starter Shane Bieber is 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA and a .81 WHIP, though. Bieber’s been fantastic in his last 3 starts. He’ll throw well enough for the Tribe to get the win.

Pick: Cleveland Indians

Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners
When: Sunday, April 28 at 4:10 pm ET
Where: T-Mobile Park, Seattle, WA
TV: ESPN+

Analysis: So far, the Rangers are hanging with the Mariners and Astros in the AL West. Texas pitcher Lance Lynn has a lot to do with that. Although is ERA is 4.44 and his WHIP is 1.32, the Rangers are 3-1 in Lynn’s 4 starts.

Lynn must only throw okay, not great, for the Rangers to have a shot to win. That’s what happens when you throw for a team that averages 5.53 runs per game. The one game the Rangers lost, Lynn only allowed 2 earned runs in 7 innings. He did his job.

Like Lynn, Mariners’ listed starter Felix Hernandez has had the benefit of a strong batting lineup this season. King Felix should have some trouble containing the Rangers bats on Sunday, though. Texas takes this.

Pick: Texas Rangers
